Owner description: Called the “French Plaza” in English, this pleasant spot offers great views and a leisurely spot in which to purchase and savor raspados (fruity snow cones) on hot, humid days. Housed in this plaza is the elegant Instituto Nacional de Cultura (National Institute of Culture), which was among the sites used for “Quantum of Solace,” a 2008 James Bond film that supposedly took place in Bolivia and Haiti but was filmed in Panama. Formerly the Supreme Court building, the Instituto now houses a small theater and hosts cultural events.

“Nice view”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Nice walk and view with lots of local handicrafts for sale. Could use someone selling water or drinks as it is hot, even with the nice breeze off the water.

“Tribute to the French”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

Plaza is at the end of Casco Viejo, the old city of Panama founded by the French at the time they were attempting to build the canal. Great views from the top of the plaza and monument.

“Views disappointing.”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

There was a local who
Gave us the history of the Canal and explained the five statues. This was interesting, but if you don't read Spanish, you're screwed. The view up the stairs was disappointing.

“Great ocean views”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

The plaza is right on the water in the Casco Antiguo. Great views of the ocean and the city skyline from there. You can get great pictures of the skyline. The historical side of it is also very interesting. Lots of good restaurants and shops around.

“If you want to visit a street market.”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

Actually I got one of my best photos here of a tiny Panamanian woman who sold me a mola. She showed me the needle pricks in her fingertips to prove she had made it. One of the smaller squares, it does have a great view of the water, and it does have some busts and an obelisk, but we found the other areas more interesting. Still you should include this square if you have time.
