“Nice location, One of the best hotels that PC has to offer”
Reviewed 3 November 2012

Our stay here started with some glitches but was taken care of INSTANTLY. When we checked in, as an Intercontinental Ambassador, we were supposed to get a GUARANTEED room upgrade. The lady at the front desk apparently was not familiar with this as she said that is was "based on availability" and they did not have any suites available at the moment. Luckily for us there was a manager/supervisor, nice gentleman by the way, at the check in area who immediately took care of the situation by upgrading us to a 2 bedroom suite, instead of the "unavailable" 1 bedroom suite. The free bottled water/fruits/gift (ambassador perks) was also not in the room and upon inquiring at the front desk, we were told that we checked in too early and we should get it sometime soon. 2-3 hours later the "situation" was solved by the same manager/supervisor who said that we should have gotten it immediately. 5 minutes or so after talking to him, we got the "stuff" delivered to the suite.

The suite had a great view of both the city skyscapers and Panama bay itself. City/Sea View from both bedrooms, bathroom and the porch. The suite could use some upgrading though and maybe some TLC as it is probably due for a makeover. Minor stuff like nicks and dings in the dining table, headboards, etc etc.... Not something one would expect from an Intercon, but not a really big deal.

Also no bathtub, strange for this star level. Maybe the regular rooms did have them, but the suite did not. Also, to use the Jacuzzi/Sauna at the Spa they charge $10, talk about nickle and diming. We had free internet (another perk of being an intercon ambassador) so I can't complain about that but it is fairly standard for Intercontinentals around the world to charge for wifi.

The staff at the executive lounge were very courteous and professional. Food at the lounge was outstanding, as well as the variety of available drinks. Way above average I would say, compared to other executive lounges at other Intercontinental hotels. Breakfast at the lounge was EXCELLENT as well, no complaints whatsoever about the executive lounge. 10 Stars all the way...

My recommendation to the hotel management would be to familiarize the check in staff with the ambassador program and that way avoid any inconvenient situations. Other than that and the minor maintenance issues with the room this place is definitely a place I would go back to.

The hop-on-hop-off tourist bus stops at the park right across the street (urraca park). Use this if you have limited time or if there are 1-2 persons in your party. 3-4 people, you would be better off hiring a taxi by the hour as they charge about $10-15 an hour (5-6 hours should be more than enough to see/tour the PC tourist attractions) . The tourist bus charges $30 pp for a "24 hour" pass, 9-5 actually but I guess 24 hours sounds better. It goes to the Canal, shopping centers, Casco Viejo, Amador, City of Knowledge, downtown/banking area.

Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if I get the free room upgrade, executive lounge priveleges. Also weekend rates are much cheaper that weekday rates. We actually moved to the Riu, after the weekend, another great hotel in PC for about half the price of the Intercon.

If you need a taxi, just walk to the back of the hotel and flag one from the street. Hotel "taxis" will charge you AT LEAST 100% more than the regular rate. $5 is the most you should pay to go anywhere int the PC area in a regular taxi.

Also, as a final note, just about all kinds of restaurants deliver in PC. Chinese, sushi, fast food joints, local cuisine, etc etc. You do need to go down to the lobby to get the food as they cannot deliver to the room but you will definitely save $$$'s by doing this.

In summary, stay here for the views, executive lounge, location... Price sensitive travellers could get a better deal, price wise, by shopping around as PC is now a "buyer market" when it come to hotel rooms.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the bay

There are better options in Panama for the same price. I chose to stay here because of its location. The rooms are in need of investment in FF & E... The A/C makes so much noise as the thermostat turns on that it is impossible not to wake up to it every time throughout the night! The doors slammed by nearby rooms since 6 am were also a nuisance. The bathroom is old and the bathroom could use a door too ( I had to use the hairdryer and it woke my friend up).
Breakfast was quite good although service in general ( not exclusive to this hotel though) be warned is very slow.

First, the young women at the front desk were awesome, always friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and clean with a terrific view of the bay and Balboa Avenue. Easy walking distance to some great nearby restaurants. Agree with another reviewer that the $15 per day Wi Fi charge is aggravating. The breakfast was bountiful and flavorful but cold. The highlight being the made to order omelets. The restaurant wait staff was average and the bartender in the lobby bar seemed bothered having to provide us with our two "complimentary" drinks which he said only included beer, house wine and rum punch. If you have time to use the pool it is a delight. If you need a taxi and the doorman arranges it for you it will be with their affiliate VIP. Although convenient it will cost more than a city taxi.

Room Tip: Agree with another reviewer that the higher the room the better, however it appeared to me that the...

Our 9 day stay at Miramar was unforgettable. We cannot express how grateful we are to the wonderful staff. The front desk, main lobby, "Pastor" and OMG,Joel the wonderful chef in the dining room were truly awesome. They helped us with everything!!!. The location of the hotel could not have been better however the hotel room was nothing out of the ordinary which I was a bit disappointed in as we went thru priority club and used extra points to stay here plus extra $$$. I was sort of expecting a bit more especially after staying at the Crown Plaza Broadway NYC which from my understanding is a scale down from InterContinental properties. My biggest disappointment however has to be the fact we had to pay about $100 extra to have internet access in our room. This was totally ridiculous as we have stayed many times in lower scale priority club locations which always had internet services provided free of charge. I would LOVE to see a refund on my MC for this or be given bonus priority points to make up for this terrible service and expense. Totally unreasonable for this day and age. I was told they are trying to make this more convenient for guests but we unfortunately did not benefit from this. Other than that all was sooo sooo great!! THANKS so very much!!

Room Tip: Choose a room as high up as possible as the view is spectacular...best in the city for sure. Try for...

The hotel was clean and in good condition. I don't usually like eating in hotel restaurants, but was in a rush so I ate dinner one night and it was pretty good. Breakfast was good, except for the service, the servers were too busy talking to each other to notice the guests.

The only problem was lack of water pressure in the shower on the 20th floor. It just about dripped.

I was in Panama City for a few days and this hotel proved to be the perfect getaway for some quiet time away from the heat and noise. I had a wonderful room with great views and the service levels I received were excellent and way above what is normal in Panama, likewise the food but avoid the evening buffet. It is a quick 10-15 minute taxi ride from downtown ( US$15) but in a beautiful, peaceful location and a world apart so if you are in the city and need to get away, I can highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a high room at the far end away from everything.

Was on a tour and stayed at this hotel. Loved the pool. The rooms were clean, but the walls and floors are "thin" so could hear people and water running from above and to the sides. The food at the hotel was good, dining service was a bit slow. Saw a sign about a gift shop but never found it.

Room Tip: From what I can tell, it appears all rooms are facing the ocean. Did not really hear traffic.

Dear guest thank you for your feedback about your experience with us. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share this matter with us.

We greatly appreciate your comments about our room cleaning, the pool and our good food. The reason why we don´t have a gift shop is because we are located in the city center close to the best shopping centers. In addition we offer complementary essential items: toothpaste, toothbrushes, shavers, etc.

Thank you once again, and we hope you will continue to choose Intercontinental Miramar for your future travel needs.

We will be waiting for you.
