We passed through the Panama Canal with Norwegian Cruise Lines...the Norwegian Sun, We entered the first lock at around 10.30 a.m. and we were not completely through until almost 4 in the afternoon. I found that the last part of the transit was the most interesting especially when we went through the area where they were still building parts of the expanded canal and some of the new constructionb or new ground was washing away. The whole structure is really very amazing and the amount of money and time saved by passing through the canal impressive.

If you only have a short time in Panama City, this is the place to visit the canal, see the Mira Flores locks (esclusas) in action, and learn all about the Panama Canal system. It is cost-effective and high-value for what you get. The museum is very educational, and the visitor center is spacious. The fee of $15 dollars is very reasonable for what you get to see and for the amenities provided by the museum, including the movie that you can watch about the construction of the canal.

My only petty nitpick is that food options are a little unbalanced. There are a couple of inexpensive little food/drink bars (one on the top level, one on the bottom) with unenthusiastic attendants, and a very nice (pricey) restaurant in-between. So, you can go cheap, or go expensive. I'd recommend upgrading one of the food bars to something more like a cafe with good Panamanian coffee and pastries. The food at the food/drink bars was limited, and it seemed like they were out of half of the things on the menu.

Other than that, everything was great - do spend several hours here, it is worth seeing everything, enjoying the view, learning about the canal, and hopefully seeing a ship pass through.

Visitors center at Miraflores lock is great. Admission $15 but it includes film and museum as well as watching ships transit the locks.

We were on a Royal Caribbean ship luxury at its finest. The experience of transiting the canal was the icing on the cake

You have to see this once in your lifetime. And they make it quite interesting. There is a museum, cafe, and lots to see. Don't miss this on any trip to Panama.
