“Gatun Lake connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

Gatun lake connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans via the Panama Canal. I was surprised by the number of fisherman along the lakeshore and the pleasure boats on the lake. I never did see any water skiers. Perhaps it was because of the crocodiles that rested on the lakeshore.

“Peacock Bass”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

Gatun Lake is great for peacock fishing. Great number of fish can be caught here in a single day weighing an average of 5-10 pounds. The guide will clean the fish for you to cook during your stay in Panama or simply give the fish to the locals. Some locals are also trying to develop the land near the lake for easier access to other sites of the lake. After fishing, you many scroll through areas that were located in what was previously military bases in the Panama Canal Zone.

"Gatun Lake (Sp. Lago Gatún) is a large artificial lake to the south of Colón, Panama. It forms a major part of the Panama Canal, carrying ships for 33 km (21 mi) of their transit across the Isthmus of Panama. The lake was created between 1907 and 1913 by the building of the Gatun Dam across the Chagres River. At the time it was created, Gatun Lake was the largest man-made lake in the world, and the dam was the largest dam on Earth." Wikipedia.

“Blue Oasis in our Canal passage”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

Enjoyed the journey through Gatun Lake from the Culebra Cut to the Gatun Locks. Scenic throughout and passing other boats transiting the canal in the opposite direction. The blue waters made a pleasant change from the muddy canal.

The hostess at the site had a lot of joy in what she did and took the time to explain to us about the operations and history.
