“Would recommend over Lunas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014 via mobile

Stayed here after the boat trip across from Cartagena, was planning on staying at Luna's Castle but they stuffed up my reservation and just sent me back into the street to find my own alternative. Went to Panamericana, cheaper than Lunas, nicer more helpful staff and awesome large privates with balconies (cheaper then 2 dorm beds at Lunas). Lunas screwing up my booking was actually a blessing in disguise, would absolutely recommend Panamericana.

I stayed two nights in the dorm and two in a private room. the dorm had not enough lockers and electrical outlets. the room was clean and had a big terrace, the private room was practical.
sleeping with open windows was a bit difficult, because people were playing football in front of the hostel, several nights.
the roof top is really chilly in the evening.
per level there were only two showers, they were clean also the toilets.
continental breakfast which you can see on the website is not really continental. you can get toast with peanutbutter or jelly and a banana.
the lounge area with a big couch was really nice.
located close to avenida central with a lot of shops. in the middle of casco viejo. close to restaurants and bars.

I stayed three nights at the Panamericana Hostel, and I must say I loved the location in Casco Viejo.
The hostel was clean and breakfast was included. The breakfast consisted of bananas (if you were up early), white bread and peanutbutter and jam, plus coffe.

I didn't really sleep very good though, because of the drunk guests that came in late at night and the noise they made, but of course this isn't really the hostels fault, but the guests that don't have respects for others.

To sum up I would say this is a ok place if you need to spend some nights in Panama City.

This is actually a quite great hostel. It's cheap, clean, with friendly staff and a nice location in Casco Viejo, close to several restaurants and bars, and to the fish marked. However, I could never stay here again, as I did not get any good sleep for the three nights I was here. There was sort of an open window above our door facing the hallway, which could not be closed, and we could hear literally EVERYTHING that went on in the hostel. It does not have a "quiet time" that most hostels I've been to do, and people were free to sit in the hallway and talk and play guitar all night, which they did on occasions. I do realize that a hostel won't offer the same privacy and comfort as a hotel, but I have been to a good amount of hostels on my travels, and this is the only one that was so noisy that it would not return. Which is really a shame, cause otherwise it was a great place!

The Panamerican hostel has high ceilings in every room, which was a relieve after having spent some nights in a crampy room. A bit strange are the open parts above every door and the drapes are fairly bright. They should come up with a better way of opening the balcony doors of the rooms. All in all a fair deal. Bring your earplugs and you will be fine. Some more chairs on the very nice rooftop terrace would be great.

Yes, people complain about the noise, but it is a hostal, what did you expect? The rooms are good, we got one with a big balcony in front of the Plaza Herrera. The location is excellent! We stayed there for over a week and could walk to the Balboa strip after roaming around the beautiful Casco Viejo area. You are also near the seafood market and many great restaurant you can not miss! The staff is really helpful and the roof terrace is a good place to see the city. Good value for your money, I would definitely stay there again! Thanks for a nice experience!!!

Perfect location in Casco Viejo. Large and clean dorms with great lockers. Good hang out wether on the rooftop or inside. There is even warm water to shower. The kitchen is spacious and perfect to make your own breakfast or dinner.
Don't forget to go to the fish market for lunch. You can walk along the shore from the hostel and you'll find it.
