This hotel was opened recently (2014) and you can tell it from the start.
All us clean and fresh but somehow there is a little cold soulless atmosphere.

Rooms are nice and the shower is excellent. There are not too many decent showers in central America.. This one has a lot of space.

The room has hard floor instead of carpets which is so great.
The AC is silent so in terms of sleep quality, this place is more than enough.

Being a bit of a hotel snob, I was reluctant to book my husband and me into the Holiday Inn Express. It'd been decades since staying in a Holiday Inn, and my memories were not that pleasant. However, a friend recommended this hotel which is located in a great area of the city. Plenty of places to walk to, the hotel is modern with great bathroom design, and the price is quite modest. Staff was truly wonderful. From booking through check-in, everyone was attentive, polite and very friendly. Throw in a breakfast buffet and they arranged airport transportation -- we had an excellent experience. There's also a fantastic restaurant right next door (Araxi Burger Grill & Gourmet).

Room Tip: We had a room on the 11th floor overlooking the cathedral. Not out of this world view, but certainl...

Holiday Inn Express hotel in Panama City, and Panama City Central America review.
We stayed for two weeks in Holiday Inn Express hotel, Panama City from June 20 to July 4, 2014. It was out of season. The weather was hot, hazy, and humid every day.
There were many rainy days and nights. Regardless, George, the front desk clerk, told me that there is a drought in Panama and the water level is too low to get enough power. Therefore, they have to save power and only run appliances that are necessary.
Enock, George, Marissa, and Jermaine the front desk clerks are nice, attentive people with desire to assist in every aspect at any time, and helpful in all possible ways. They are fluent in English and capable to help without any preconditions and right on a spot regardless of how busy they are.
About the hotel:
The hotel is nice in all aspects. Nice build, convenient, and everything is made for the guests to feel comfortable and in a good mood. It is unusual design with a sliding door that serves either as the bathroom door or adjacent closet door. It is quiet, and clean with all necessary facilities and services at high level. The pool is small. The deck area and stairs are not always clean. The hotel runs efficiently to conserve power. The breakfast is adequate and full of necessary food that may satisfy most people. The serving breakfast area is too narrow and very crowd. One complaint that I could find is the security key card. Sometimes it requires several attempts before the green light will appear and let you in. The card is required for when you are using the elevator up, to enter to your unit, to enter the 7th floor pool and to get to second floor gym area. We occupied unit 516 that looked upon a wasteland. They could build a good sized pool on that wasteland, but there probably is a lot involved in this. I would recommend this hotel to everybody and would stay at this hotel on my next visit to Panama city.
Panama City review:
On many streets surrounding Holiday Inn Express hotel everything is under construction, repair, remodeling, and restoration or just ruins. Some streets are covered with garbage, **it and dirt. The blue overpass bridge across from the parliament is covered in **it. Thousands of people are walking over this bridge everyday, overstepping **it, and sometimes missing it. There are only a few streets that have traffic lights and signs on intersections with street names. There are no street names and building numbers on buildings. There are very few directions and signs on the roads. It is very hard to navigate through the city because of this. Many local people don't know where which street is located because there are no street names and when you ask directions, one person may send you in one way and another may send in the opposite direction. Cars are parked on the pavement and they are so close to each other and the walls that there is no space for pedestrians to walk.
Not all streets and roads are under construction and dirty. There are very nice, clean and very beautiful areas along the bay. Some of the architecture is very interesting, original and surprising by design and solutions. The architecture of the Trump Ocean Club International Hotel & Tower is very impressive. All surrounding buildings on Punta Pacifica are very beautiful and it is hard to take your eyes away from them.
There are many magnificent places to visit, such as a boat trip through canal locks (we used canal bay tour company), Miraflores, Amador Causeway, Casco Viego, Casco Antiquo, Panama Viejo, Cinto Castero, Metropolitan park, Ancon Hill, Summit botanical gardens and zoo, Soberania National park and others. I would recommend getting a taxi at 5:30 – 6 a.m. to Soberania Park and drive taxi across Gamboa lake to the trails and to the farthest place on the trail that is open for cars. You will get to the point where the trail is closed for cars. Start walking from there. Let the taxi wait for you. You may walk up to 6 km on that part of the trail. This trail at early hours is the most active and most occupied by wild animals. Bring a photo camera and you'll get unforgettable pictures. I may recommend you a taxi driver that is responsible and reasonable and he will wait for you. His name is Marcel Rioas and his phone number is (507)6516-8330/6266-8397. He often stands at the Holiday Inn Express hotel. I would suggest getting familiar with places that you want to see using maps and Google and only then get to hip-hop bus that makes excursions through the city and stops at all the significant places. You may get out of the bus to look at the site for an hour or two and get back to the bus when it returns. The bus will give you a map with a schedule. There is a bus every hour. Only remember which bus you booked: red or blue. They have different passages and different sites, but they come to the same place on Multicentro. You may get two or more days and it will save you money for taxi to get to the sites that this bus passes through. There is very beautiful place that is called Ocean Reef Islands. These islands are man-made in the ocean for residential houses build on these islands. Unfortunately, the guard doesn't let you cross the bridge to islands because these islands are private so you may enter to the bridge and look from there. The surrounding of this place is very beautiful. Panama has new subway- Metro de Panama. It is very convenient transport. There are just few stations and Google knows all the stops and can show them on the map to relate them to all significant places. The last stop of the metro is Albrook the major bus terminal where all buses are stationed. You may get to Albrook by metro or bus and get a bus, taxi or whatever from there to any place in Panama.
People of Panama are very nice, polite and friendly. Not many people know English, but they are still willing to help as much as they can. The city bus requires a card to pay; it can be the same as the metro, as long as this card has some money left. The bus costs 25 cents but you cannot pay money for the ride. There were a couple times when we rode the bus and the local people used their card to pay for us. We gave them money back but they used their cards not expecting money back from us. The local money and dollars are one to one and most people in Panama use US dollars and cents. Through all encounters with Panama people we had very good experience and willingness to help at any point as much as they could. At the same time it is contrary drivers to each other. There is no courtesy among drivers and drivers to pedestrians. There are very few traffic lights and cars will not let pedestrians to cross the intersection. You have to go through intersection forcing drivers to stop. The traffic in the city is very heavy. Cars are going through the city slower than pedestrians walking in the same directions. It is not smart to rent a car in the city. It is much better to use metro if it suits you. I like Panama and wish to get back some day and visit not only city but some islands as well.

Love this hotel located in the middle of down town Panama close to everything, walking distance to just about everything including the new Subway system. New hotel clean and typical of Holiday Inn Express hotels, staff was just okay but that is to be expected in Panama. Not too friendly of people as staff.

Room Tip: Get the city view it looks toward the canal and get high up in the building

For the soaring heat of Panama City, Holiday Inn express was the answer. A modern hotel with all amenities. A smart breakfast coupled with large rooms and modern interior provided the ambience required for a fatigue tourist. I really enjoyed my stay

Room Tip: All rooms above 6th floor are of good view

The Holiday Inn Express is placed in a good location,in the heart of Panama City.It is a modern hotel, simple, good rooms, clean. The staff is very kind and helpful all the time.It also has a fitness center and, although very little and exposed to the Sun only in the morning ,also a swimming pool.
However it is not only good news:the Hotel does not have a restaurant or a bar!and in the rooms there is no minibar, nor fridge!in the morning there is a self service for breakfast, but,at least for me,I think it is not nice not to have a fridge in the room in a very hot country, nor a bar where to drink something when you want.

Room Tip: I think they are all the same good

I stayed for couple of days and was such a good experience. Good breakfast , american Style and there is a grill to eat outside on the left. You can get a cab or walk 15 minutes to Multicentro Mall. There you can get the bus sightseeing Panama to many places in this point.
