“Beautiful, friendly, perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

What a beautiful and hospitable place. Everyone is incredibly friendly. The decor and setting are something out of an old movie - every level has a common area that is more beautiful than the next. The bar in the lobby has live music every night and while we missed it the first two nights, we enjoyed a harpist (a harpist!) wearing a cowboy hat and playing pop music. It was incredible. The food is fantastic, better than many of the restaurants we tried.

The rooms are extremely spacious and nicely decorated. The shower head is a dream come true for me.

The location is on the edge of the more gentrified historic area, but it's extremely safe and just a few blocks from the touristy stuff.

I kind of can't believe we landed on this place. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for the plaza side (I assume it's more expensive) but the rooms on the back are next to the...

Hi ChristyRoadtripper.

We’re thrilled to hear you landed at American Trade. And thank you for your great review. Antonio (harpist) is definitely a great fit for our lobby, he’ll be so happy to hear you loved his music. And Chef Clara of your complements of The Dining Room. Looks like we’ll be seeing you when next in Casco – can’t wait!

My girlfriend and I flew down to Panama for an 11 day. We were set to stay at the American Trade Hotel our 1st night and then 3 nights at the end of our trip. The day before we left we were notifed that our lodge in San Blas was blown away by a storm. I called the front desk at American Trade and spoke with Christian Hazlewood and Alberto Lynch. These two gentleman were incredibly helpful. They could sense the anxiety in my voice and immediately worked with their local contacts to arrange another reservation for us in the San Blas. When we arrived at the hotel late our first night, we were greeted by Christian himself and the current GM, Graham Miliken. These guys define 1st class service. And this is coming from a New Yorker who expects only the best.

They were incredibly helpful in pointing us to the nearest bar for a much-needed cocktail and then provided us with restaurant suggestions that were spot on to our tastes and interests.

After travelling around Panama for 7 days, we circled back and stayed at American Trade 3 more nights. This hotel is literally amazing. The decour retains the local Panamanian style (my girlfriend was obsessed with tile) but is also incredibly clean and classic much like the Ace Hotel groups boutique hotels. There is a pool and outside deck on the 3rd floor that is pretty great in the humid climate. The hotel in a historical landmark building in Casco Viejo (the old city) which is set right out of a movie. Easily the coolest neighborhood in Panama City with great little shops and restaurants right outside the hotel. Our room had a balcany that overlooked the plaza and had wonderful view of Panama.

It was a true pleasure staying at the American Trade Hotel. We cannot say enough about the service we were given. The last thing I will say about the service is that these folks go above an beyond. Maroni, the bellman, was kind enough to escort me directly to a cigar shop a few blocks from the hotel. He actually walked us to the shop to make sure it was open.

Thank you to Graham, Christian, Alberto, Maroni, and everyone at the American Trade Hotel for making our vacation worry-free.

You guys rock!

Kate and Jesse

And thank you, Kate and Jesse! It was so great having you with us. Knowing we could help square you away in San Blas, and of your love for Casco makes us smile. So happy we could help. Next time around we'll get you into our world class Jazz Club. We so appreciate your compliments of our service and will be sure to share your praise with all, especially Christian, Alberto and Maroni. Come back and see us soon!

We just spent 10 days in Panama City... 8 of them at the American Trade Hotel. This hotel was as close to perfection as I have seen. The staff was helpful in every way- in both English and Spanish. The lobby was cozy and inviting. The location was PERFECT- safe but lively and close to everything. The rooms were amazing. We stayed in room 309 for the first 5 days and when we checked back in 2 days later (we cut our beach stay short to go back) we were in room 304. Both rooms had firm but cozy beds, spacious living area, fabulous showers and bathrooms, and balconies. The view from 309 was a street view and of the church (you could hear the bells chime regularly) and the view of 304 was of the plaza and the water (INCREDIBLE VIEW). Unido, the café in the building, made delicious coffee. Free wireless and bottled water were welcomed (I HATE being nickled and dimed).

WOW JMMeyer174! Thank you for such a great review. We are all smiles knowing you left the beach early to spend more time with us. It’s also great to hear you had the chance to spend nights on both sides of our beautiful hotel – there is no doubt each one offers its own qualities. We look very much forward to your return to Casco.

My husband and I stayed overnight at the hotel during our honeymoon. We checked in to our beautiful room, and set up our stuff. There is no hair dryer in the room, so that was a bummer. The staff was friendly and helpful. They even set out little fruit tarts for us at the end of the night. However, our room was 108, and was right next to the street. We didn't think anything of it at first, but in the middle of the night and throughout the morning we could hear dogs barking, church bells ringing, and some kind of street sweeper. It was as if we left our windows or doors wide open. Since it was the middle of the night, we didn't want to pack all of our stuff up and try to find a different room. So we suffered and barely got any sleep.

The hotel is gorgeous and the staff was friendly enough, that I would recommend ATH, but please make sure you do not get a room that lines up to the street.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a room that lines up to a street.

Hi Caitlin B. Thank you for sharing your review. We’re so sorry to hear your night’s sleep suffered as a result of Casco’s overnight sounds. We are always happy to take requests regarding room preferences, and will be sure to have you sleep over Plaza Herrera next time around. Regarding hairdryers in rooms, we do have them in our rooms albeit difficult to find sometimes. We realize you didn’t have one and that is our mistake. Please accept our apology. From all of us here at ATH, we hope you and your husband had a wonderful honeymoon and look forward to having you back in Casco.

All our best,

ATH Team

The ATH is the place to stay in PC. The service is outstanding. Alberto answered all of my questions prior to our stay and connected with us during our visit. He is outstanding! The front desk crew and entire team is truly top notch--Maroni and Christian for sure were the charmers! First, the hotel is beautiful. The rooms are spacious (get a room with a balcony overlooking the casco), clean and every detail makes for an extremely comfortable stay. The gym on the first floor is like having a private gym, good equipment and clean! The location of the hotel is perfect right in the center of the casco. (10 min from allbrook airport and 20/25 from PTY). Unido Coffee bar is in the hotel--if you are a coffee drinker you must try the pour-over coffee, delicious! The pool on the roof is small but lovely and a great escape from the heat. The view is outstanding and you can even see the new Bio Museo. Also, the jazz bar in the hotel is fabulous. We caught the sunday evening show..i think tix on sunday are 8 pp. I cannot say enough good things about the ATH and the staff--simply superb. We miss everyone already! Thanks for making our stay so special!

Room Tip: Reserve a room with a balcony

Great job on this new hotel --- ideally located facing a plaza near the water in the heart of colonial panama city. Everybody working here was incredibly friendly and fun to be around. The restoration of the rooms and common areas is exquisite.... it was the perfect way to spend a day in Panama with plenty of sights, restaurants and bars within a few blocks.

Room Tip: Room 302 has very high ceilings and a balcony overlooking a plaza

The American Trade Hotel is a jewel property. A boutique hotel that is an oasis of new and casual elegance in Panama. Rooms are very well appointed with attention to details. Large proportions, top notch electronics and bedding. Even the bathroom is of high calibre. Definitely recommend.
