We had made reservations for 1 room for 4 people. When we showed up they had us booked into a room with one dbl bed and one single bed. We were told us there were no other rooms. We asked if they could at least provide some extra blankets for my 15 year old son to sleep on the floor, but they said the laundry was closed and they couldn't get any (it was 8pm). In the end they were able to find an open room with two dbl beds. Half of the lights in the room were not working, it was on a busy street with lots of truck noise, but there was hot water, and the a/c worked well enough and for $88/night (breakfast included) it met our requirements.
Check out time was 1pm, we asked for a late check out for 2pm because my son was not feeling well. The receptionist said they would charge us $44 for the extra hour. The manager overheard the request and let us stay the addtional hour for no charge. That was very much appreciated.
This is a no frills hotel. Do not expect any extra amenities/luxuries. There were sheets, bedspreads, pillows, soap and towels. The receptionists were nice, but not too helpful. The breakfast buffet was adequate, eggs, maize tortillas, toast, fruit, juice, coffee. Internet access in the lobby for $1/hr. ATM at a gas station across the street. Bus stop close by.

I didn't know how to choose a hotel in another country, but through TripAdvisor I found prices and location of different hotels as well as the reviews. Personally, I'm very happy after choosing Hotel Via Espana. It's close to everything, all the main bus routes go nearby, the hotel is clean, the food at the restaurant is excellent, breakfast is enough.
The only thing I didn't like was the street noise since the windows didn't seem to be thick. But I was awake very early and that wasn't a big deal for me.
I saw a lot of people checking in everyday, as well as families with kids. I think that says a lot of a hotel.
Also, they pick you and take yo to the aeroport.
I would go back to that hotel if I ever went to Panama again.
Thanks.

Front desk staff was surly, like I was interrupting their quiet time at 8 in the evening. Refused to honor the pensionado discount (retirees in Panama).
Room was bare-bones, towels but no soap. AC worked okay but blew the curtains away from the window so there was a constant light show all night long. Sheets were thin and well used. Room looked to be 50 years old, with moldy spots on the floor from water habitually leaking from the room above.
There was a lot of street noise, even with the AC on, making it hard to sleep. There was a small TV and the remote worked, so there's one thing.
For $50 a night, there have to be some better choices in Panama City.

If you are looking for a cheap hotel and don't want anything more than a bed, then this is your hotel. If you think you save with "free" hotel/airport transfer, then you better go to another hotel. For transfer, you are packed in a minivan which does not leave till no more sardine can fit in the can. Once at the hotel, you need to deal with LARGE "attitudes" at reception. They are so RUDE. I made the booking based on what I read on the internet and based on price but I would NEVER go back to that hotel. Found people in Panama to be quite corteous so I don't know where this hotel found the worse to place on the front desk......don't go there ....only if you are DESPERATE

I choose the Via Espana because it was recommended to me as a low cost down town hotel, and it was the lowest cost on the list. The staff was helpful and friendly. When I asked about a place for dinner, they said it wouldn't be good for me to walk anywhere except for the gas station across the street for hot dogs etc. or to the restaurant attached to the hotel. I had an ok meal of rice & chicken, and not so great red wine. there were other diners watching the tv Jackie chan movie. the staff was very nice & attentive.
My room window was open and the floors were damp from humidity and the room & sheets/coverlet had a musty smell. The bedding was threadbare, with a cigarette burn on a sheet and some unknown schmere. I ended up taking off the coverlet, closing the window (because of traffic noise) and turning on the a/c. to cover the noise. There was a light shining in & I put on eye shades.
I would not stay there again because I didn't get a good night's sleep (noise/light) and felt a little uneasy. But, the rate was only $28.50 incl. tax and might appeal to some?

Not really worth your money, unless you really want a cheap place to stay. The only thing I like is that they have free p/u from the airport. Just call them to arrange and there will be someone that will hold up a sign for the Hotel Via Espana and other hotels in the area.

The hotel is really, really basic, but cheap. Didn't even have an outlet in the room or bathroom. No air conditioning in the check-in lobby or outside the rooms. You will have to turn on the air yourself when you are in your room. It does have tv, not so soft towels and not Egyptian either :) Do not get room next to the street cause it's really loud from the cars and bus especially during the day!!

There is really not much around the hotel. Just some small stores like a little grocery store, gas station with little store inside, internet places, etc. Hotel does have a little restaurant, but didn't eat there and 2 internet stations.

If you really want to stay somewhere cheap, but a little bit better. My friends and I stayed at the Euro Hotel down the block that is a little better and they have a restaurant and travel agent in the lobby. The restaurant is pretty good there for breakfast. We had 4 people in one room, but there was a little room of the big room with 2 twin beds and 2 in the main room. I think it was just like $45 per nite for all of us.

We hired a taxi drive to take us places like Colon, Gamboa (rainforest resort), Panama Canal, Panama City tour, etc. His name is Evaristo Aguila, Cell # 666-30283 International calling from US 011-507-666-30283. He really gave us a good price and is really trustworthy! :) It was only like $60 for me and 3 of my friends for the Panama City tour and for like almost the whole day!! Tell him to take you to the seafood market restaurant!! It doesn't smell good when you go in the market, but upstairs is so...good...it's cheap and fresh seafood and lots of locals go here!! Order the mussels and whole fried fish...they are so...good!! These dishes are only like $4-5 dollars. They also have lobster for cheap too like $5-12!!

If you use him, please tell him that a girl from Delta sends you.

Thanks! :)
