“Classy, Comfortable and...Cool!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2011

I had the opportunity to stay in two different apartments managed by this group and I must say both were simply wonderful! They're beautifully decorated, super spacious and comfortable, with great air conditioning--a necessity in Casco Viejo/Panama City. They're also unique, full of character and in an ideal location in a cool neighborhood.

Evan, my primary contact when I arranged the stay, was fantastic, too. He knows so much about the area and is incredibly helpful when it comes to planning what you'd like to do. He's super professional and warm/friendly--a great combination--and he helped make my stay extra special.

I wholeheartedly recommend Cuatro Tulipanes--I loved staying there and I'm sure you will, too!

My wife and I, and our two teenagers, just spent three nights in Las Monjas, an old, restored nunnery in Casco, which was the opening leg of a 9-day Panamanian vacation. To say we loved every minute of it won't bring justice to the fond memories we're taking away, both of our time in Casco and also in the San Blas Islands and Bocas del Toro region.

But I'll focus here on our three nights in Casco, thanks to Matt and Evan at Las Cuatro Tulipanes (Evan was on vacation when we were in country, but all of the communication leading up to our vacation was extremely helpful and on-target).

Though our days were packed with excursions outside of Panama City - rafting on the Chagres, visiting the Embera, etc. -- the time in Casco was perfect, and the apartment equally so. We had a spotless, restored two bedroom apartment on a great side street, doors away from great restaurants with everything we'd need within easy walking distance. Looking out from our sizable balcony, we had the sea to our right, and directly across from our apartment got to play alittle bit of peekaboo with two small, local children playing on their balcony. Casco itself is a great place to see the mixing of old and new, with much restoration underway.

While I'm sure the downtown hotels of Panama City will appeal to many, the allure of Casco was too much for us to pass up. Matt was the perfect host too, as he met us as we arrived in from the airport late on a Friday night (with a driver he'd arranged for us, who also was impeccably efficient -- many thanks to you Blas, for all the rides!!). Matt insisted on carrying our bags up to the 2nd floor apartment (well air conditioned, I might add!), and once there, had beers for the adults and Cokes for the kids in the fridge -- both nice touches.

Here's one sidenote I have to include: Matt was also very helpful to us when our 15-year old needed to see a doctor for what we suspected was a bout of strep. Matt told us to get over to Punta Pacifica hospital (affilaited with Johns Hopkins), which we did. We had perhaps the best ER experience one can have - and not one you'd have here in the States: We were in and out in less than 45 minutes, with strep diagnosed and a shot of penicillin and we were on our way. It was all ery efficiernt, clean and the extremely courteous hospital staff only added to our positive impressions of the country and Panamanian people.

Bottom line: If you're someone who likes high rise, luxury hotels, Casco and LCT might not be for you. But if you like a little bit of adventure, and really want to experience life in a more authentic part of the city in clean, restored apartments, I'd give matt and Evan a call pronto.

Senor Craig!!! As mentioned in our conversations, we were so honored to have been part of the family travel "transformation" towards staying in authentic rentals instead of the traditional name-brand hotel. Not unlike eating local, staying local allows travelers of all types to really immerse themselves in the roots of their chosen destination. Your stay contributed to our local economy, helped in our fight for sustainable development, and in the end, it also just made for a better travel story! On behalf of our whole team here, we look forward to seeing you guys again soon!

When we first booked our trip to Panama we were booked at the Intercontinental Playa Bonita, then we learned about Los Cuatro Tulipanes. No comparison. Since we had a non-refundable reservation at the Intercontinental we did have to stay our final night there. It was clean and fine but completely devoid of any character and no ability to do anything off the property. Las Monjas was a beautiful apartment with any amenity you could want. It was great to walk out the door and be at any one of many great restaurants. Plus to be able to walk around Casco Viejo and absorb all it has to offer was great. We'd highly recommend. Plus Matt and Evan were very helpful answering all our questions and providing guidance. We even had to seek our medical care for our daughter who got strep throat and Matt pointed us to good medical care.

These were great guests: A family from the East Coast looking for an authentic Panama experience. They did an exemplary job of interacting with the local community, hitting up all our favorite restaurants, and even exploring some of the less touristy spots in Casco Viejo. Should someone get ill while visiting Panama, they can attest to the fact that Punta Pacifica's Johns Hopkins (the only Johns Hopkins affiliated hospital outside the USA) is top notch: clean, smart, and inexpensive. Come back soon and let us know if you hear any special college admissions news!!!

For the price of a hotel you get a gigantic one-bedroom, or larger, impeccably furnished, and well maintained. Great service. I have stayed in just about every apartment they offer, each is unique and special, each is worth its price. Unique and historic . . .

Keep it up Evan and Crew, you're doing a great job of offering quality apartments at a reasonable price. . . I and my wife will be back, After seven nights spread over three different trips, I'm not sure i would stay anywhere else . . .

Fortunately, we've been around for a few years now and have a steady flow of "repeat" clients like this one. We love the repeaters because they know exactly what to expect: as long as the apartments are super perfect, the neighborhood does the rest! It's also useful to know that we do offer discounts for repeat customers not to mention our new Last Minute Specials (top menu of website) should you live in Panama's interior or have the opportunity for a quick weekend jaunt!

Los CuatroTulipanes is a home away from home in Panama. A "best" alternative to the same old chain hotels and the real feel of having a cool apartment in this great country.

Staff is great. Location in Casco Viejo puts you in the ancient and beautitul heart of the old city. The apartments are large, clean, classic Panamanian decor. Go. Stay. You will feel like a local.

Location, location, location. You van't beat this one!! My son and I stayed here for 5 days on a real estate hunting trip and loved our spacious 2 BR apartment overlooking Avenida Central. Both large BRs with big screen tvs are air conditioned and had very comfortable bedding. Additionally, the apartment had ceiling fans in every room
; was comfortably appointed and had a full kitchen which we could have used but didn't.
The location was great with many excellent restaurants close by. Next door is Tequila (Mexican) and a half block away was Manolo Carocal, a Casco favorite. Nearby were Casablanca and Ego which we also enjoyed. The managers also provided a notebook with helpful tourist info that covered everything. Next time we are in Panama again, we will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Was an apartment so no room service, spa or pool

These were great guests because they have been to Panama a number of times prior, on business. They used to stay downtown at the Radisson or Marriott or Intercontinental: which was fine. But, on a friends recommendation, they decided to stay in Casco Viejo. They used their apartment with us (Monjas 2c) for meetings, happy hour drinks, and for some off-hours lounging. We think they'll agree that staying in Casco is much more interesting, authentic, and just MORE PANAMA than anywhere else in the city. Look forward to hosting you guys again!

We spent 2 days in Casco Viejo at Los Cuatro Tulipanes and I can totally see my family spending 2 weeks there. Gorgeous, comfortable accommodations, and wonderful and warm hosts....what more could we want? We had a fabulous meal at Manolo Caracol...on Evan's recommendation. We saw everything in Panama City we needed and wanted to see, thanks to Blass. If you need a great place to stay at a reasonable price AND with charm, this is the place for you. Two thumbs up and 5 stars!

Room Tip: We stayed in 2C, perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids
