“A cool fort in the downtown area”
Reviewed 27 January 2013

A nice fort hidden in the downtown area. Nice grounds, walking area and fort.

If you do the walks it's about a 2 hour tour. It's a school trips top for many Maine kids, so it can be a bit loud if your there on one of those days.

“Old Fort Western”
Reviewed 4 January 2013

Fun for kids. Docents in period costume give tours and explanations. Emphasis on English contribution to Maine settlement, but not exclusive to other cultures. Kids encouraged to explore, some exhibits are 'touchable'. NOT a dry history lesson.

“Authentic fort in the middle of a town”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

We really enjoyed traveling and arriving here, but were very sorry to see that it was closed. Got some nice pictures of the river view and autumn colors, but couldn't see inside.

“A nice visit”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

There is not that much to see and the kids were not allowed to explore on their own. You have a guided tour which lasts about 1 hour. It is interesting but not great for children. The tour guide was very knowledgeable.

“Super place to visit!”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

My family really enjoyed this site. Our tour guide was so great with my son and allowed him to touch and experience many of the canons, guns and old store items. In my opinion this was one of the "must sees" of my big tour of New England.
