I tagged along to Maine on my husband's work trip. He finished in Bangor early and we decided to head back south to get some miles under our belt. We booked a room last minute at the Senator and were very happy with the hotel. We stayed in a president level room and it was clean and had an updated tv/sheets. I had seen other negative reviews about the rooms so I was very happy with the cleanliness.

We took full advantage of the hotel amenities. We used the gym, pool, steam room and even got a massage ($69 for 45 mins!). Everything exceeded our expectations given we only paid $116 for the night. We also had dinner and breakfast at cloud 9. All of the staff was super friendly. We were big fans of $3 Allagash White drafts and the crab dip appetizer.

I think this will be my husband's go to hotel when he's back in the area.

We had such a great time at the Senator. Four of us shared a room with two queen beds. It was relaxing and perfect for a little getaway. Our dog was able to stay with us too! The room was clean, the beds were comfy, and we were able to watch a movie in "surround sound" by having the TV in the bedroom on the same channel as the one in the front sitting room. We really enjoyed our time! The continental breakfast was delicious - above and beyond most others.

I stayed here on 9/26/13. The first floor room was minus a bedspread and the TV was from the 1990's. The walls and particularly the ceiling were lacking in sound insulation and the thumping noises of people walking on the second floor reverberated through the room. When that wasn't happening, the AC unit on the roof thrummed constantly. I felt like I was next to the engine room of a ship. The bathroom tiles were popping up off the floor. The bathroom floor was filthy - needed a drastic steam cleaning. I will never stay here again. I encourage management to spend the night in room 146 and enjoy the same experience that I had. The hotel looks like it's wrapped in a pretty package, but it's an empty gift.

JohnP,
We have a variety of rooms here at the Senator Inn that range from an economy room with a single queen bed to a luxury suite with a Jacuzzi tub. Our economy rooms give us the ability to offer low rates while still being able to provide the full amenities of the spa and restaurant. We are constantly updating and renovating our property and apologize if the condition of your room was unsatisfactory. Our housekeepers use a technique in which the comforter is tucked between two sheets rather than the traditional bedspread. We always have extra blankets at the front desk that are ready to be delivered upon request. Very few rooms still have the tube style televisions. At this point we have converted to high definition flat screens in 118 of our 124 rooms and plan to be completely turned over by the end of November. With no rooftop A/C units in that wing it has been difficult for our maintenance team to track down the noises which you encountered. I am happy to inform you and future travelers that we have begun renovating the bathrooms in our legislative wing. These renovations consist of new floor to ceiling tile, new toilets, new vanity/sinks, and brand new stand up showers.

We thank you for your feedback and only hope to have a 2nd chance to show you the true Senator Inn & Spa experience.

Stayed here again on business. Not impressed. Got a room on the other side of the hotel this time. Still a VERY dated room which seemed dirty. The decor is very old. The bedding seemed old. There was a refrigerator and coffee maker, the wires were all over the room. Staff was great. The spa smelled wonderful. Food was great. I would not stay here again unless my company makes me or the rooms get a complete makeover.

Room Tip: Im not sure there are any. A business associate was on the second floor in a larger room. It still h...

We are currently updating and renovating our congressional wing and apologize if the condition of your room was unsatisfactory. We expect these updates to be completed by early 2014.

For future travelers looking for the best value we suggest booking our Presidential Room. For only $10.00 more*, these updated rooms boast an extra 80 SqFt, modern furniture and upholstery, and in-bath televisions and telephones.

We needed a centrally located hotel for excursions to Augusta, Waterville, Unity, Hallowell and on to Brunswick and Wiscasett. This hotel provides good value and the price includes a substantial breakfast. The homemade blueberry muffins and cinnamon bread were outstanding. The surprisingly good dinner menu satisfied two foodies. Every staff person was warm and friendly. You have the feeling they enjoy working there and care about your comfort. While we didn't have time to utilize the spa facilities, the pool looked beautiful. Our room was comfortable and quiet, despite the hotel being on a busy road. While the public areas of the hotel have been upgraded, our room was in need of some renovation. Bathroom cabinet and door paint in our room was chipped and tile could be cleaner, but that would not deter us from staying there again or recommending to friends.

Room Tip: Inside rooms may be quieter than those facing the road. I'd read a review that rooms were noisy...

I booked this last minute so my husband could pick up our new rescue dog in Maine. He asked for a hotel with a pool. He called me later to say how awsome the pool area was. Unfortunately there were thunder storms that night and it was closed. At the end of the evening the staff called him to say the storms were over and even though the pool hours were over as well, they would open it for him to take a quick swim. Very thoughtful of them and something they didn't have to do. The food was good and the bar was a lot of fun. He ran into a friend from home (Mass) who said they go there all the time. The room wasn't breathtaking or extravagant but it was serviceable. Go here if you are looking to enjoy the spa and restaurant. If you just want a place to sleep, you can find better deals elsewhere.
