We love to take our grandchildren to Sandy Point. The beach is always clean and the crowds are moderate. The October crowd was small. The water was cool, but the sand and sun were as good as ever.

This was an excellent venue for a family picnic. Our small grandchildren (5 and 2 1/2) enjoyed the nature center, playground, flying kites, collecting shells, wading, ... We even saw several deer just at the entrance. The guard gave us a huge discount too.

We visited on week end. It was very crowded. I wasn't there for the beach, it's good. Just went for fishing. It's ok but can't compete natural beach. Might go for fishing again though.

Went to Sandy Point on a whim coming back across the bridge. The gate guard noticed the DoD decal and asked if i had a park pass, i said no and he told me i was free. I was surprised that Military were free, even got a card for one free year at any national park. So if your Military remember to show your ID and get the card. Man was it packed, people everywhere. Some people had no shame when it came to their kids. Letting them run around in diapers, not swimming type regular hang to their knees when wet diapers. Other that that it was a cool place to go.

We had a day off from missions work in DC and the kids wanted to see the ocean. We were told by friends that a good beach is more than 3 hours away but Sandy Point is a place many people go instead for the day. We spent a few hours playing volleyball, soccer and swimming on a sunday afternoon. There are places to fish, rent boats (too expensive), and a boat launch as well. The downside-really crowded when we went. Also the bathroom facilities were large but disgusting. If you are from out of state is costs $7 per person (not per vehicle). And FYI that the sand is not white sand, its the brown/orangey kind. We didn't mind that being from Michigan-most of our northern is like that. View of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is nice though!
