Every neighborhood has one of these places. Take-out only from that big menu, lunch and dinner specials ordered by number, and every variation on every Cantonese-American dish known to man. And the loony descriptions of the dishes on the Chef’s Special Menu … “truly a romantic dish” indeed!
Still, China Wok does a very good job within the limits of its genre. The food tastes good, it isn’t greasy (even fried foods such as chicken wings and egg rolls), portions are generous, and each order is cooked fresh while you wait. I particularly like their wonton soup … the wontons wrappers aren’t overcooked, as is the case at many such Chinese take-out places, and they use real chicken broth, where other places seem to get theirs from bouillon cubes.
Annapolis is kind of a dead zone for good ethnic dining, aside from the obligatory sushi place and Thai restaurant, which are especially de rigueur in tourist locales. There are no really good sit-down Chinese restaurants, mostly a collection of take-out joints. There are better and more authentic Chinese restaurants in the DC Metro area, but you’re looking at a 30-40 miles drive each way. So it’s nice to have China Wok less than a half mile from my house.
