The Jeff always has been charming. We have stayed there half a dozen times over the last 37 years. This was our first visit since the latest renovation. The room was much better and the bathroom was a great deal better--indeed, it was excellent.
We had a king room in the west wing.
Service still was cordial and excellent.

Room Tip: Our west wing king room was excellent.

I'm a fan of old New England inns, and this one is a real winner. Everything was just as it should be: the check in, the room, the dining room. And the setting is ideal for a short holiday going to museums, sauntering down the streets past a variety of shops, checking out local restaurants. Amherst, of course, lends "a touch of class." This inn is first rate in every respect!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Robert Frost room, a corner room on the first floor. Very nice. We channeled the...

Nearly perfect

Their web site has a very good guide of things to do in Amherst which is much more use than the tourist information from the Chamber of Commerce.

Minor niggle 1 - there are no facilities for coffee / tea making in the room. Urns are available in the morning in reception for tea / coffee. Despite requests they were unable to produce black, ordinary full caffeine, tea bags over the five days we stayed there.
Minor niggle 2 - breakfast is an a la carte affair so unlike a buffet you get what is brought. The fruit salad on the side varied from "boring melon mixture" to " an exotic mango, blackberry, raspberry melon pineapple creation" over the four days. A little consistency would be nice.

Room Tip: The hotel is in a quiet area all rooms will be quiet at night. Some rooms only have showers I would...

Amherst college owns this very special inn. Don't even think about campus housing! This inn is just right in every way. Our deluxe queen had a lovely, sunny sitting room , a huge bath and closet. Find Victoria, the bartender, for perfectly wonderful libations and then stay and have your meal there. Yes, there are places that have more name recognition, but the food at The Lord Jeff was luscious .

Room Tip: Deluxe queen 214 is lovely.

Dear Alleyshop,

Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us while visiting Amherst College, we are also so thrilled you enjoyed your dining experience at 30Boltwood. We're thrilled that you had to chance to meet Victoria, and have her mix a cocktail for you - she's one of the best mixologists around!

PS. I agree! room 214 is one of my favorites!

I took my son to check out Amherst College and Hampshire College, and we stayed at the Lord Jeffery Inn. It's easy walking distance to Amherst College—practically right on campus—and all the restaurants and shops along Pleasant St. (Amherst's main drag). Extremely personable staff, lovely room, and prompt room service (breakfast) delivery. I especially appreciated:

- Very comfortable bed and high-quality linens
- Plenty of handy outlets for charging computers/phones, etc.
- The hotel's "green" approach

If my son ends up at one of the local colleges, I'll be happy to stay at "the Jeff" again!

What a pleasant stay we had at "The Jeff". One of the prettiest Inn's we've stayed in in New England. The rooms are spacious and immaculate and the common areas are just beautiful and comfortable. Thinking of reasons to go back to Amherst, great little college town a little sleepy in August, but that's just fine for this middle aged couple. And the summer rates were very affordable.

Dear BMurray33,

We appreciate your review of the Inn, thank you! We are also thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your getaway, along with all the charm Amherst has to offer. Amherst returns to a sleepy little town over January, and then again inn June - so we hope to see again you then.

We stayed one night recently while visiting Amherst College. We arrived late, in a torrential downpour and hungry. The young lady at the counter was very helpful, she lent us umbrellas, helped us evaluate our eating choices, and answered all our questions with a smile. Staff was attentive and helpful all the time including in the restaurant. The room was well appointed, bed comfortable and clean. Only drawback was the bathroom, it was tiny. It has a shower, toilet and sink and they are very efficient with the space but it was a tight fit. Nearly impossible for two average size people to be in it at the same time. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good and staff was attentive. All in all a good experience.

Room Tip: Choose a top floor room if possible. We could hear the people in the room above us walking in the mo...

Dear L T,

Thank you so much for your review, we are all happy to hear you had a good experience while staying with us at the inn. I’m sorry the weather was unpleasant upon your arrival, but very pleased to hear about the helpfulness and kindness of the staff. We are sorry to hear you found the bathroom to be a tight fit, but sometimes it’s necessary to get creative when dealing with the existing floor plans of a historical inn – each space having its own unique properties and characteristics. Upon your next visit, we can certainly match you with a room that might better suit your needs. We appreciate your review and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Best,

Amanda Malone, Catering Services Manager
