“Wonderful Get-Away”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

This adorable B&B is a great room for a few friends to get together for a weekend. It can sleep up to four people and has a little private living room, one double bed, one twin bed in a separate room and a pull out couch. Every amenity has been thought of from robes and slippers to wonderful snacks available anytime. A refrigerator and microwave are also in the room.
Lynda, the innkeeper, was gracious, accommodating and provided a three course breakfast to die for. If it wasn't negative 5 degrees, it was only a short walk to town with many restaurants and bars to choose from. If you are looking for a weekend away with good friends and want all the comforts of being at home, I highly recommend Purple Gables in Amherst. We are all looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed at Purple Gables on October 20th and found Lynda to be a truly gracious and friendly hostess greeting us warmly upon our arrival and offering all sorts of local information so we could get the most out of our stay. The suite was bigger than I had imagined and there were plenty of special "added extras" for us to enjoy. Breakfast was delightful and Lynda was able to cater for a required gluten free diet. We would recommend this B&B highly if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Amherst which, by the way, was gorgeous in the fall. Just wished we could have stayed longer.

The Purple Gables is tucked among the trees and within an easy walk of 'downtown' Amherst. We loved our three nights there. The bed was incredibly comfy and the suite spacious and relaxing. Lynda is a delightful and entertaining host who takes a genuine interest in her guests and has a real zest for life. The multi-course breakfasts, served by Lynda, are wonderful - especially the baked eggs! We were staying in Amherst to visit our daughter who is studying at UMass - the Purple Gables made our stay that much more enjoyable. Go there.

I bet Lynda would get even more five star reviews, but after so many positive comments, it is kind of hard to come up with anything new to say. The suite is beautiful and comfortable and quiet. I thought the bathroom, in particular, was very nice. There were all sorts of snacks and extras for us to enjoy. In the evening, it was nice to sit at the table overlooking the pretty back yard. Lynda and her small dogs are alot of fun to talk to. And breakfast, as I think every last reviewer has said, rocks.

I don't know how it could have been any better.

Although just a brief visit, we couldn't have asked for a more attentive, warm and interested host. Lynda went out of her way to make us feel right at home even though we were tired after a long days drive including catching the last tour at Emily Dickinson's house. It was delightful to relax in the impressive flower-filled rear garden chatting about our travels with someone who was also genuinely curious about the Australia beyond advertising campaigns (hope you are still planning that trip, Lynda). Great dinner recommendation and her sumptuous breakfast kept us fueled for the next day.
She is host who goes the extra mile for her guests. Thank-you Lynda!

Do I even need to chime in with yet another 5 star review for Lynda?? Purple Gables is lovely, conveniently located, tastefully decorated, and yes, the breakfasts are superb. Our family of 4 was very comfortable here, with one kid on the sofa bed and one in the private single room. But the best part is having such a personality-filled and gracious host, who is warm and service-oriented, personable but not intrusive, just a genuinely kind person who wants you to have a wonderful time in Amherst, which we did. Thanks, Lynda!
