I found this museum completely over rated! They have an Arts & Crafts room when you first walk in, which is the best part of the place for kids. Everything else isn't all that kid friendly, which you'd kind of think it would be, being a children's book author and all.

After our first visit 2 years ago, we didn't really think we'd be going back any time soon. Just this past year, they had a Mo Willems exhibit. Again, it was geared a lot more towards the adults, including the artwork and preliminary sketches were hung at adult eye level. We had a good time, great reading the process of his books, but the kids were less than impressed. They were bored within 10 minutes.

They have a cafe, but with only a couple vending machines. I was really surprised at how poorly designed this place is for kids!

This museum will appeal to adults and children alike. Small and manageable with an art studio where everyone can be creative, and an exceptionally good gift shop.

This was the first time for our nine year old granddaughter. I wish we would have had more time. Two hours was definitely not enough. She loved the young artist area. Tissue paper collage is much more challenging than it looks. The scavenger hunt for details in the paintings was also fun and helped her focus on the art work. We were there in time to watch a short movie in the auditorium that was well done and a change of pace.

Seeing the actual artwork from familiar books is so amazing. Even the best quality books never do justice to the original art. The bookstore is too overwhelming for me. There are too many choices. I never buy anything.

Who doesn't love Eric Carle books? We arrived and found the grounds to be clean and parking very convenient. Upon entering the building we saw rooms to do some arts and crafts, read books or buy books. There was one Hungry Caterpillar box like structure for children to sit in and have their picture taken.
Rooms with art work hung on walls many not eye level for children.
I thought due to his writing children's books it would be more kid friendly.
Outside there were lawns to run on but a row of trees and a sculpture "not for climbing" which by the way you would not know as there was only one sign and it was far from the offending structure and trees,

The museum was cozy and set in the most beautiful places I gave been. There are several colleges near by to round off the day.
