Average Best Western. Very well place in the very city center of Skopje, but nothing else. The staff at the reception is not motivated at all, not professional. The rooms are quite small, and none of them have views anywhere. The food in the resto for breakfast is quite ok, quite complete. The decoration is just horrible, terrible carpets and walls with very sad flowers, quite kish....
If you have to go to Skopje, I recommend the Holiday Inn, better quality for similar price. A bit further away from the city center, but also very well situated.

Stayed for 3 nights on a business trip. The hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff were excellent. Breakfast was fine. Air con could be better. No character but it's in a great location - very central and relaxed - opens on to a square with bars and cafes and the Mother Teresa centre. The city itself is a bit run down but the Old Bazaar area is pretty cool at night - live music and a great atmosphere.

Stayed for 3 nights while on business. The hotel is nice and clean and in an excellent location. My room was huge, although it was a twin room which meant that I had a single bed (could not change as the hotel was fully booked) and the smallest ever duvet. Staff were ok, and generally it was all no frills.

There are not a lot of options in Skopje if one wants to stay near the square. The Best Western Turist is a solid choice. The staff is helpful, the hotel clean. Breakfast was fine -- usually a full spread of some kind of egg dish, several meats, fruit, cereals, breads, juice, tea and coffee. Free internet in the room was reliable and speedy. The television worked fine. My room had a queen size bed, a small desk and comfortable desk chair. The bathroom was immaculate and the shower had strong, hot water on demand. I would stay there again. It's quite basic but it was in an excellent location.

Get a room with a balcony, and you can lean out over the square and watch people pass by (as well as the statue of Mother Teresa). I found this hotel very comfortable, central location and close to restaurants and shops, friendly and charming service. Not the most unique or stylish hotel I've ever stayed in, but would certainly recommend it.

First, Skopje has little interest for visitors unless you are in for business. Or on pilgrimage on Mother Teresa’s footprints. Large parts of the city was destroyed in 1963 earthquake leaving little old left – a factor that makes cities in the neighboring countries so much more fascinating. The city is in major parts a product of 60’s and 70’s Soviet style architectural style: “concrete brutalism”.

However, if you need to visit Skopje there are three hotels that cater to international business travelers’ needs and offer roughly the same level of service and comfort: Holiday Inn, Stonebridge Hotel and Best Western Skopje. All three are close to the city centre (Macedonia Square) and on international comparison all fare roughly the same: 3+ star ranking. But still these are the best Skopje has on offer. The smaller places seem to be a bit more geared towards “local taste” and located adjacent to the family home who is running the place.

Location

Best Western Tourist Skopje has a good location right in the middle of the city centre. It’s located along the pedestrianised Gjuro Strugar Street. Opposite to the hotel is newly constructed Mother Teresa memorial building. There are number of cafes and restaurants along the street. You could not find a more central location in Skopje. Thus being located along the walking street your access by car will be through back streets and parking lots.

Rooms

Newly renovated, clean and conventionally furnished rooms are better than you’d expect judging by the exterior of the building. Even if your room would be facing the café and restaurant filled pedestrian street you are not likely to be disturbed by the noise. Triple glassed windows imported most probably from Germany (opening mechanism the same as in Germany) will keep the noise away. You’d actually want to ask for a street facing room as all of the come with a small balcony.

Conclusions

Safe bet with no negative surprises. Excellent location. If I were to visit Skopje again, I would most probably request the same hotel.

I spent two nights at this hotel in Skopje in the beginning of May this year. I thought the rates were good, but I am not sure how they compare to the competition in Skopje.

The hotel is located in the center of town, which is good news. The hotel's coffee shop/bar sits on the main shopping street (pedestrians only, lots of cafés and restaurants). The old town (the part that survivded the 1963 earth quake, the only area without brutalist concrete megabuildings) is just across the river from the main square, some 500 meters from the entrance. It was not altogether easy to access the main entrance, which is tucked away on the side of the hotel, at the end of a messy parking lot.

The rooms are nice and well equipped. One negative is that the air conditioner is placed by the window, behind the curtains. So you have to choose between privacy and a cool room. The lobby is small. The breakfast room is small and was quite crowded between 8.30 and 9.
