“Very noisy”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Nice rooms and convenient location. However we were unfortunate to stay at election day. The noise level was unbearable and kept us from sleeping. On top of that the restaurant is very noisy. The hotel manager was very unfriendly and unhelpful. The hotel100 meter down the road (hotel Solun) might be a better choice if you appreciate your quiet.

You cant find a better place to stay in Skopje than this. It is literally 10 meters from the central statue of Aleksander the Great with each room having a view of the statue. Below the hotel is the Pelister restaraunt which has almost any dish your pallete will crave for and that too at a reasonable price. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean, spacious, air conditioned (you need this in macedonia if you visit during the summer) and bathroom is also nice and spacious. Breakfast is buffet style as well as ala carte (included in the price). I would definitely stay here again should I visit Skopje.

Room Tip: Try to choose one of the suites since they have a better angular view of the center. They are a bit...

I had the pleasure of staying at the Pelister for 2 nights. The hotel had been recommended by a friend. The room was great - clean, tastefully decorated and well priced. What also really impressed me was the great service from Lelja. She was amazing, always smiling, nothing was too much trouble, very gracious and genuinely interested in her guests, She was very prompt in all communications when I booked the accommation and in person just as prompt and customer focused.

The hotel is centrally located in a prime location, close to everywhere. The Pelister Restuarant is seriously busy and justifiedly so. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner during the course of our stay and the food was great. There is a huge variety to choose from and the quality is f a high standard.

I am going back to the Pelister in a week's time for a night and look forward to returning. If you are going to stay anywhere in Skopje, make sure it is the Pelister.

We found the Hotel Pelister rather by accident, after what seemed like a never-ending, hot, humid and dreary walk into Skopje Centre from the Hotel Portal (see separate review for this disaster of a place). Relieved to find the square and the huge statue of Alexander the Great (an excellent landmark), we were actually looking for a restaurant for lunch and I thought I recognized the Pelister Restaurant, which is on one corner of the square right behind Alexander, from TripAdvisor. The restaurant is, in fact Number 1 for Skopje restaurants on TripAdvisor and, in our opinion, deservedly so: interesting, very extensive menu, excellent food and drinks, cheap prices and fabulous service. We had Meatballs and Shopska Salad and drinks for under AUD$15 total….all good…and while dining, we realized that the Pelister also had accommodation in the building so, out of curiosity (and because we were really unhappy with the Hotel Portal), we went upstairs and inquired if they had something available for our remaining two nights in Skopje. Our luck was in, given that the hotel only has six rooms and, even luckier was that they were offering a 25% discount and throwing in an ‘ anything you want’ breakfast. We could have booked a cheaper room, but we opted for their corner suite, which has fabulous views over the square and includes a Jacuzzi tub, a full dining-table, a living room with a big flat-screen TV and a DVD player and a computer nook, with free WiFi thrown in. Under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t consider staying right in the middle of a capital city. However, Skopje is very small for a capital (just over 500,000 people) and May is before Peak Season, so it wasn’t overly busy, crowded or noisy at all (remember, we had just come from Istanbul too!). Actually, the suite was pretty quiet – the square is a pedestrian area, so there is no traffic noise and we only heard a bit of noise from the restaurant and the noise from the fountain when we opened the window. Everything was new, super-clean and working, breakfasts were great and the lovely young woman from Reception (Layla?) was so helpful…we received great service all round and ended up having just about every meal at the restaurant. Yes, at €128 per night, it was a bit more than double the price of the Hotel Portal, but it was worth every Eurocent…and we got our passports back less than ten minutes after checking in and weren’t asked for any payment until we checked out. A much nicer way to welcome strangers to Macedonia!

Being in the centre also has the advantages of being near the main sights: the Old Bazaar area, the Shopping Malls (and there are a couple of big, modern ones), Mother Theresa’s Memorial House and the various museums, including the really interesting Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews of Macedonia. Do it!

Room Tip: Splurge and get the corner suite...it's worth it.

This hotel is part of a huge restaurant on Skopje's main square. The restaurant's outdoor terrace buzzes night and day, but the rooms are quiet. There are only six, and you're lucky as we were to snag on on short notice, you won't be disappointed. Probably best to reserve ahead since there really are no other places right on the square. Rooms are all new and come with anything you want for breakfast from the restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. They arranged to have some laundry done for us on a Saturday morning and have it back by Saturday afternoon.

This hotel has changed its name to the Pelister which is the building's original name. It is located in the main square and overlooks the fountain, Stone Bridge and Kale Fortress.
We checked in late in the evening with the restaurant staff downstairs and chose a suite. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and sat at the window in our room watching the fountain and its lights 'perform' to the music! We ate breakfast downstairs in the restaurant where Leila looked after us perfectly. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here. There are only 6 rooms and all are immaculately clean and recently refurbished. There was noise from the cleaners in the restaurant early in the morning but don't let this put you off staying here!

Room Tip: The suite - room 12 is very spacious and is on the corner with superb vistas
