“Important context for understanding Skopje”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

There is free entry to this museum. It is worth having a quick look if onl to see an interesting repurposing of a building. This was once the train station, which was damaged in the 1963 earthquake. The main exhibit is a very well displayed story of the 1963 Skopje earthquake and its aftermath. There is good English signage. After looking at this exhibit one looks at the buildings in the city with more informed eyes.

There was also a mildly interesting art exhibit in the entry room. It wasn't clear whether this was a permanent exhibit or not.

“Great potential”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

There was a very interesting display about the earthquake. Downstairs there were archaeological displays, but nothing to tell you what you were looking at (in any language). Upstairs we tripped over some electrical cords in the low lighting, and it was obviously just being used for storage. Perhaps they should put up an out of bounds sign?

“Spend an hour, learn about Skopje's history”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Best exhibit is the one that talks about the earthquake of 1963. Gives you a good sense of the history of Skopje. Wasn't very well maintained, though ... some artefacts that looked like they were from the 6th or 7th century were haphazardly shoved in a corner with no descriptions.

“Ask the guide of the museum anything!!”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

The museum is for free, and it's definitely worth a visit. it's located inside the remaining old railway station, it gives an overview of the story of the city without being too big. THE GUIDE IS AMAZING!! Ask him any questions you have about macedonia. He was happy to educate us on the history of the area and even took us to a cafe to try a traditional drink called Boza.
