“Tranquil setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Our first trip to Norfolk Island. Whispering pines was in such a lovely setting your out look is large pine trees and white terns, we were so pleased with this accommodation, your neighbours are not very close Each Bedroom has an en-suite Very clean and well presented accommodation Car provided was new, Very close to the shopping district. We have recommended it to all our friends. I loved the idea that there is a mobile phone there for your use whilst there and all you do is leave a $10 recharge on the phone at the time of your departure. The tours that are provided are great tour guides are fantastic love this holiday and accommodation that much I am booking my parents a 50th wedding anniversary holiday there

This was our second holiday on Norfolk Is and we chose Whispering pines because we had a wonderful time on our first visit in 2005 .
We appreciated the peace and tranquility with wonderful views of the National Park and the picturesque valley.
The Cottage are Very Comfortable and private and contain all that we could wish for a week on the Island.
Having the car was wonderful and allowed us to explore all the beautiful and interesting spots of the island at our leisure.

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Loved the seclusion and outlook to the pine forest with white terns flying about. It was great to each have a room and en-suite. The cottage was cheerful and well supplied with everything we needed. The car was modern and easy to drive. At the same time, we were close to town and had easy access to all the Island attractions. We would definitely choose to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for the cottages with separate en/suites if this interests you.

6 Adults stayed at "Whispering Pines Cottages" overlooking the beautiful National Park. The cottage had everything from picnic set to washing machine & everything in between. The two bedrooms had Queen /Double beds & a great ensuite each. The lounge, dining & kitchen area was bright & clean. We had a lovely time and wouldn't stay anywhere else. We all sat outside with wine & chips and enjoyed the peaceful scenery every afternoon. Thanks for the expierience

Room Tip: Any cottage is nice, but we liked the three closest to the road

i brought my husband a week's trip to Norfolk Island for his birthday surprise this year. We had a lovely week on the island. Accommodation was great. The cabins were terrific - clean and very private with a lovely view over the valley and the ocean in the distance. Would recommend Whispering Pines accommodation to anyone planning a trip to Norfolk Island.

Room Tip: Maybe if internet is important, ask for a cabin with wireless connection. Ours didn't have this...

Just back from 3 weeks on beautiful Norfolk. Norfolk Pines Group manage Whispering Pines Cottages and are also Borry,s Car Hire. The cottage we had was immaculate and very peaceful with lovely views towards the National Park which it is just on the boundary of. A glimpse of the Ocean could also be seen in the distance. In fact its just a 5 minute walk to the Botanic Gardens which the longest trail takes about an hour. We used to walk most afternoons to see the birds. The cottage had 2 bedrooms with their own ensuite plus a nice kitchen and open plan lounge. Heaps of room to move and you dont feel crowded by other cottages. Covered shade out the front with table and chairs for outside sitting. Good laundry as well.
A hire car, near new Hyundai i20, came with the cottage, insurance was extra.
Our car was waiting for us at the airport, with guide to our cottage, and they also provided a phone with local SIM card.
Basically island accommodation seems to be either centred around Burnt Pine Shopping area, more a town feel, and great if you dont have a car and are into restaurants/shopping etc, or a few places like Whispering Pines that have a real Norfolk Island holiday feel. We were more interested in the National Park and bird life, than places with good sea views, so chose W.P. And very glad we did.
So when choosing accommodation check their position carefully against your expectations, noting not many do actually have good sea views.
3 weeks was actually perfect to absorb the local culture and history, and we walked all the trails. Many quite hilly so a walking stick is a good idea. We were planning a bit of fishing but the weather wasnt so kind.
As others have said the local weekend market in town on saturday and sunday are great for stocking up fruit and veg. Plus there is a guy who sells great pork steaks. Meat can be purchased at the butchers in the main supermarket complex or the butcher across the road from the airport. A kilo of pre beef sausages was around $12. While costs are higher than the mainland I didnt think they were exhorbitant considering the freight. We took coffee and tea from the mainland and had no issue thru customs.
All in all a great 3 weeks and hopefully we will return.
