We got off to a bad start as as the owner was more interested in taking his wife out to dinner for their 10th wedding anniversary than being of much help to us. He was quite rude to one of my friends when she asked if he could advise us who the tour company was for our included half day tour and told her she should have listened to our bus driver. When told he hadn't made an announcement he said he would find out and ring us within 10 minutes, we are still waiting for that call. We wasted half the first morning going to the tour companies and have since learnt Polynesian have an agreement with Bounty tours. In the week we were there he did not appear once to do any maintenance which it is badly in need of. Granted we did not pay top dollar for it and it is only rated 3-4 star but the building and grounds are very run down. The flywires in both bedrooms rattled all night as the wind blew them open and shut enabling mosquitoes to come in. The windows themselves were either fully open or shut and could not be regulated in the windy conditions. Otherwise it was comfortable enough and basically clean. We attempted to clean the carpet with the carpet sweeper but it fell apart. The outdoor table on the "grass" outside our apartment (not a balcony as advertised) had an ashtray full of butts. On the plus side it was good to have breakfast included and it was in a good position.

We loved staying here, despite the travel agent recommending it as a last resort!

We booked the Air Norfolk kids fly free package, which meant even our 15 year old daughter was free!

The accommodation was simple and clean, but as noted in the other review, the hosts could not have offered more. We too loaned snorkel gear and were offered DVD's and other activities for our kids to do. While the apartment wasn't 'serviced daily' (ie: beds made etc), it was mini-serviced, which meant tea & coffee re-stocked, bathroom given a quick clean and towels replaced if needed. This was fantastic and totally unexpected.

As the cost of groceries is quite high, the basic continental buffet breakfast & provision of tea & coffee ended up saving us a lot of money, which we spent on icecreams at the beach!

I thought Norfolk was just for older people, but really, our family (mum, dad & kids age 15 & 9) had such a great time. It was a relaxing, laid back and totally unique experience. I have been in a 'Norfolk state of mind' since visiting!

We booked a 1 bedroom apartment with Air NZ package deal. And choose The Polynesian, which is 3-4 star.
When we arrived we were told we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment for free, which was great, as we didn't end up having the cot in our room for our son.
We got given our car keys and told to sort out the insurance payment later (hireage was free). The apartments are about 50 metres down the road from the complex. There's a free buffet continental breakfast, that is in the on site restaurant each morning, which is very nice.
The apartment itself was average, but clean. Which was fine with us as we didn't spend much time there. The master bedroom had a comfy king size bed and it had a full kitchen, TV , DVD player etc, plus it also had an onsite laundry. Free plunger coffee, tea and milk supplied and topped up when needed. The units are also serviced daily.
The owners were very friendly and helpful, they treated us like family. The husband gave my hubby free snorkel gear, which he made use of. And they also leant us one of their daughters bikes for our son to ride. They were always happy to help if we had any questions.
They also have a swimming pool and a spa pool at the main complex.
It is within a good walking distance to the shops too at Burnt Pine.
Anyone looking for budget accommodation, I would reccommend The Polynesian.
