We enjoyed our weekend stay at this well managed and very clean hotel. Normally we stay in the BackBay part of downtown but the Homewood offered that best prices and we really wanted to experience the small commuter town (40K citizens). You can walk to the hotel from the Alewife T station (walk out to the passenger pickup stand to the street, turn right and go through the underpass trail. Once past the underpass, take the right wooden walkway over the wetlands and then keep walking to Massachusetts Ave and the Hotel -approximately 3/4 of a mile total distance), the 350 and/or 79 metro bus drops you off right in front of the hotel on Massachusetts Ave after the five to ten minute ride depending on traffic.

The staff is very helpful, maid service provides very clean rooms, breakfast is adequate, if there is a problem with the room, the maintenance staff jumps right on the problem (our air conditioner was not producing cold air so they tested it and actually replaced the wall unit immediately [room 335 now has a new air conditioner]), and there are plenty of restaurants close by and more within a 10 minute walk for a couple of minute bus ride (350, 79 or 77 routes).

St Agnes is a five minute bus ride or 15 minute walk (51 Medford Street, phone 781-648-0220) and the parish offers a 4pm and 5:15pm Saturday schedule along with 7am, 10:30am, Noon, and 5pm Sunday schedule. Our 4pm Palm Sunday Mass was well attended and the sermon was OK but the priest needs to show more passion for our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you like to run or walk, don't pass up the opportunity to run/walk/bike the Minuteman Trail that appears to start at the Alewife T (metro)Station and ends up ten miles to the north. There are a few street crossings but for the most part you can cover a great deal of distance without worrying about traffic.

It took about one-hour to travel to Alewife by metro due to the two required line changes (Blue to Orange to Red line) and the fact that Government Station is now under repair for two-years and you must change at State. From Logan Airport to Alewife I found the Blue Line to State Orange Line, to Downtown Crossing/Park Street Red Line, to Alewife (end of the line). Even though the hotel said there is taxi service at the Alewife station, we would beg to differ with that comment. Arlington appears to be right out of a Norman Rockwell painting and safety doesn't appear to be much or a worry.

There were plenty of families with high school aged kids staying at the hotel while visiting the numerous college campuses in the area. The 77 bus route is right in front of the hotel and it heads to Harvard T Station.

Room Tip: Room 335 now has a new air conditioner and that will be a welcomed addition with the hot and humid temps just around the corner.

You had us at "well managed and very clean"! And we appreciate your taking the time to point out not only what worked for you at the hotel but to provide so much detailed information for our future guests - and the feedback on taxi availability at Alelwife. Thank you very much!

This hotel is near Cambridge and provides an excellent escape from the City- even though you're still close by. I believe the room was one of the best Homewood Suites I've ever had and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There is Menotomy Restaurant nearby which was great also. Watched part of the Final Four games!

Love your review - you demonstrated the same excitement I feel for what this hotel's location represents as far as the best of both worlds - close enough to all the excitement of Cambridge and Boston but in a quiet suburb very near by. Thank you!

The Homewood Suite we stayed in was large (2 rooms) and comfortable with new furnishings and a great kitchen. Free parking or across the street is a public bus into Cambridge and the T. Hot breakfast included in price and a dinner selection 4 nights a week. Decent value.

Great place to stay, everyone are very friendly & helpful. Close to the T, for getting around Boston (1 mile by bus to Harvard or 1.5 to Alewife Parking). If you don't like the food at the Homewood, great restaurant's with in walking distance.

We were extremely happy with the location of the hotel (close enough to the colleges that we'd like to visit). The small sitting room & kitchenette give us a lot more room to work with. Breakfast is included thought the quality of the food wasn't very good. The hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful.
