“they cancelled our prepaid reservation for the 2nd night”
Reviewed 9 April 2008

We wanted 2 rooms for 2 nights. We booked 2 rooms for Monday night. There was only one room available for Tuesday night which we also booked. When we got back to the hotel Tues night we were told our reservation had been cancelled and a credit issued for Tues night. They were full and had no room for us. Totally unacceptable. The clerk had no explanation and told me to call the manager in the morning. We were lucky enough to get 2 rooms a block away at the Roberts House which was a much nicer place to stay!

This was our first time at Jared Coffin house and we loved it. The prices were good, our room was spacious and comfortable, and the location is great - right in town. We also like the fresh baked goods for breakfast. We'll definitely stay here again during our next trip to the island.

The Jared Coffin House used to be a classy & fun place to stay at - I stayed there for over 30 years. The dining facilities ( which are no more, now closed ) used to be great - a great Restaurant " Jareds " & Tap Room.

The hotel has changed owners recently & has a totally different character than it did in the past. The Dining Room & Tap Room are now closed. There is no food service ( other than a skimpy Continental breakfast ) in the hotel. The new management group are no where nearly as accommodating / friendly as the previous owners / management. The previous owner owned the property for many years.

The new management was not accommodating at all.

The overall experience was nothing like the good old days - it was no longer enjoyable. The room was OK, but in need of a renovation.

If you enjoyed the Jared Coffin House in the years past ( under the previous owner / management ) you will not care for it now.

NOT worth the money - look elsewhere.

In the middle of bustling Nantucket, the Jared Coffin House is a lovely retreat. My queen sized room in the Annex, which is historic also, was comfortable and spacious with AC, Cable, and very large bath. The Decor was VERY New England whaling, with lovely prints on the wall.
Coffee and pastries in the parlor next to an extremely efficient and friendly front desk. All of the staff went out of their way to make my stay pleasant.
The rates vary according to season, but in May very reasonable for a first class visit.

My husband and I just spent a long weekend in Nantucket at the Jared Coffin House and had a delightful stay. We were given a corner room in the main house with a full sized four poster bed, a spotless room and bathroom with plenty of towels. Our room did not have A/C but they supplied a quiet fan. Since it's June on Nantucket we really didn't need anything but an open window which was lovely.

The staff was friendly and welcoming and the housekeeping spotless. The only negative I have is that the interior of the building could use a little updating and love. Our room had blinds but no curtains and the furniture was worn. It seemed to have been freshly painted which may account for thel lack of curtains or not.

The owner has closed the restaurant but since you're right in town there's no shortage of eateries near by so this presents no problem. They also serve coffee and pasteries in the mornings.

While they have an elevator, it was out of service during our visit so everyone took the stairs to reach their rooms. If you can't do stairs I would suggest asking them if the elevator is in service before booking.

It was simple and cozy in a way that Nantucket should be I would would be happy to return again.

We stayed here for two nights in a family room with husband myself and 4 yr old son. Room was large pull out sofa for boy, canapoy bed nice linens, clean. Building we were in was from 18th century very settled sloped floors, spooky. First night my bathroom door moved a few times. I was told a tale from someone who had worked at the inn once at dinner on second night. I was scared when I got back to my room although nothing scary happened to us. We were told the room is haunted by a lady named Phoebe who was a Puritan and gets quite upset by unmarried guests. We were happily married and safe! She will pull the covers off while you sleep and then appear scowling at the foot of the bed. I was so scared I hardly slept at all clutching my covers to me (definately did not need to hear that story after dark). My sons DVD player was playing when we came back to the room(Sleeping Beauty) she must have enjoyed the music) I was certain we had turned it off. That was the worst of it, my husband and son were fine with it we had an overall good stay.

Recently spent 3 nights at the hotel. Kitchen is closed, tap room is closed, elevator is not functioning. They can find all sorts of fruit and juices for private parties in the dining room but hotel guests only get breads and coffee for their continental breakfast. Beware that there are vast difference in the rooms. Our friends were initally put in the building next door in a room that was a former 3rd floor storage closet, There was literally 18 inches on each side of their bed. Our windows had not been washed in a year and you could hardly see out. The window air conditoner vents were broken and there were no screens on the windows.
Water pressure was fair and water was WARM not hot. The hotel is located near everything but for $300 (w/tax )a night we will be looking elsewhwere on our next trip.
