We returned to this wonderful, historic hotel 30 years after staying here on our honeymoon. Still a top shelf place with beautiful rooms (yes, the same room, too... Aaawwwwww)

Two minor downers: the hotel couldn't find a suitable restauranteur in 2013, so they've gone without, and have had to struggle through it by offering an incredibly embarrassing continental breakfast in a dining room with a horribly inconsistent 50s deco decor...pretty icky looking.

It's true... This hotel isn't for the value hunter, but it is a great place with the history of Nantucket at least throughout the front and bedrooms

Our son made the reservations for the Jared Coffin, based on Fodor's reviews. We had stayed there many years ago on our first trip to Nantucket and smiled. Right up the hill from the ferry, it was easily accessible. However, there are stairs, and those with mobility issues might want to investigate options. This hotel -- like most things in Nantucket -- is pricey. Nantucket is an island and everything must be brought in at some cost. It is also one of the most sought-after resort islands, with real estate entry prices in the millions-of-dollars rage.

The rooms at our were immaculately clean and lovely, but the bathrooms needed updating. Our son's room was in back, with a very narrow stair access. We got the one in the front, up a larger staircase. There was minor street noise on a Saturday night. We appreciated the excellent internet access. The common rooms were beautiful, including an excellent wine and cheese spread in the afternoon, and our classy continental breakfast was excellent (cereals, coffeecake, bagels, quiche, beverages, etc.)

Our greatest praise goes to the excellent concierge service. Friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming -- these ladies at the front desk made the stay personal and comfortable.

Old buildings can have quirky renovations, but this one has retained much of the original charm. I would not choose it if you find the quaint surroundings and stairs annoying or not worth the money. For us, just the historic charm of this island is found is such buildings.

Room Tip: Talk with the concierge on duty about your room preferences as you book.

We stayed here for one night on Labor Day weekend and it has been difficult to wrap my mind around the $500 + hotel bill. The staff was very friendly and helpful but the room-ugh. It was a rear/brick wall facing room and has not been updated since the 70's. I had to slam the door in order to get it to close and my wife couldn't open it. The bathroom window was painted shut and was done in 70's green tile with an old (not charming) tub and chincy toiletries. There was an ancient window air conditioner which functioned though noisey. The stomping in the room above us prevented us from sleeping and they would not even give us a late checkout although they did hold our bags until the afternoon ferry. The "breakfast room" also had not been updated in decades and the breakfast was so-so. Continental is stretching it. There is a room with a wannabe exercise room.

We have stayed at the Jared Coffin House several times and the welcoming staff coupled with the location have made it our families first choice for our annual visit. We have visited as a family with our young adult children and also as a couple, and on every occasion we have been extremely happy. Dalbert makes an awesome coffee cake for the complimentary breakfast which was much more elaborate this year. Rachel and Paula were most helpful suggesting wonderful dining experiences (Oran Mor or the water taxi to the Wauwinet) but also local treats like Sayles for the best chowder and Stubbies for sandwiches and Jamaican takeout. The cold water bottles they gave us each day as we were headed out biking on the route they had suggested was another nice touch. The location is fabulous in the heart of town with easy access to the beach, shopping and dining. We had two renovated, comfortable and well equipped rooms in the Daniel Webster house this summer and the one for our children had a queen bed plus a pullout sofa. The front patio is a great place to bring coffee/wine, read a book and people watch. Wish we could have stayed longer but we will be back for sure!

Room Tip: The "family rooms" are great if you are traveling with children.

Paula and the front desk staff and concierge service and bell men were superb and made me feel so welcome and happy. The Inn and our room was stunning and majestic. The constant offer of cold water and beach towels was a treat. The location couldnt be better.
