“charming with excellent services - martin house inn”
Reviewed 8 August 2007

The stay at the Martin House Inn in Nantucket was wonderful. First class breakfast in the morning, complimentary, as well as wine chilled in the afternoon and evening. The rooms were spacious enough yet cosy, with great beds and bathrooms. The manager named skye does an excellent job doing what she does - taking care of the Inn and the people that stay in it. The next trip to Nantucket will be at the very same place, no need in looking further. About 4 blocks from downtown, making everything walkable, to the water or to town to shop and eat. Love it!

Lovely Inn in a great location. Its a quick walk into town for shopping and restaurants.

The decor is charming and the rooms very comfortable. It is a very old inn however so expect some creeky floors and older plumbing!

Morning breakfast is included and its delicious. There's a great wrap around porch to enjoy as well.

Last week I visited Nantucket for the annual Daffodil Festival. After reading several reviews, I decided to stay at the Martin House. It turned out to be an awesome decision! I arrived on the island early Saturday morning. I headed straight for the inn, hoping that I would be able to leave my bag so I wouldn't have to schlep it around with me until check in. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted when the inn keeper offered me the opportunity to actually check in. That was the start of what would turn out to be a fabulous weekend on the island.

I really can't say enough about the Martin House. The customer service, exceptional; the decor, exquisite; the rooms, welcoming and cozy; the afternoon snack, delicious; the overall experience; delightful!

  • Liked — The wonderful accommodations - beautiful, clean and well appointed.

Our stay at the Martin House Inn was great. We had two cute rooms, each with their own character, and the Manager was wonderful. The Inn was very clean and well taken care of. The linens in both rooms were very nice. It is in a perfect location -- very close to the middle of town... but not too close. I will return.

  • Liked — I slept REALLY well. The bed was very comfortable and it was quiet.
  • Disliked — Warmer weather, which allows for the porch to be open, probably creates an atmosphere that seems to have more common spaces.

I booked this B&B a year ahead for Xmas Stroll 2006. Never having been to Nantucket before let alone "The Stroll" weekend we were somewhat dismayed to find on our arrival that all the decent restaurants were fully booked for the duration. The innkeeper, when we finally got to see her, just shrugged her shoulders when asked why she hadn't pre-warned us about this. I had been in touch both by telephone and e-mail several times before our arrival, you would have thought they could have warned us.
The Inn itself is typical of this type of B&B very comfortable in the downstairs reception/lounge area but the rooms were full of furniture that need repairing or throwing out. The bathroom was cold with only a blower to heat it, and as for the working fireplace, I don't call a fake fire log - one per night! - a roaring log fire. No other heating seemed to be available.
I notice that somebody else has commented on the breakfasts, great if your an early bird and I mean early otherwise the vultures have settled and there is no refreshing of what's on offer. Even the coffee was cold.

It was a nice, quiet inn and a quick walk to downtown. I liked that a continental breakfast was set out buffet style for several hours during the morning and you weren't forced to eat at a certain time and share tables with other guests. You could eat at the big table with others if you wanted to, but you could also eat in the living room, on the porch, or in your room.

We just returned from a two night stay at the Martin House. It is a very comfortable, pretty inn on a quiet street and an easy walk to the ferries, the restaurants and the shopping. I appreciated the attention to detail. The linens were Ralph Lauren and the bathroom was well stocked with everything you could need....lotions, shampoo, shower cap, make-up remover cloth. Everything was very clean and the sheets and towels always had a just washed smell and feel which made it easy to relax and enjoy our time inside. Our bathroom in room 23 was tiny so I'd recommend a different room. We're very happy we discovered Martin House.

  • Liked — clean and comfortable
  • Disliked — very, very small bathrom in our room
