“a beautiful place”
Reviewed 7 June 2012

We stayed at the Sherburne Inn just after the Memorial Day madness, for four days. The inn is beautifully maintained, clean and welcoming. It is also on a quiet side street so you feel really tucked away, which was great. We stayed in room 3 (the Cottage Room) which was very small, but we were fully aware of that when we booked it. The inn was quite full when we were there. Lovely additional touches included complementary cookies and sherry in the evening, help with restaurant recommendations, and Susan went out of her way to help organise a birthday bottle of champagne for my husband. The only drawbacks were: a lumpy mattress on our bed and an extremely tiny bathroom which made it difficult to maneouvre and store our stuff.

Room Tip: Room 3 is tiny ! I had a peek at the rooms upstairs and they are much bigger (but of course also mo...

We appreciate your review of our Inn. All-in-all it sounded like a successful and happy visit. To address your discomfort with the "lumpy" bed... I'm sure you are referring to the featherbed topper we have added to each of our guest beds. It takes just minutes to remove the topper and remake the bed to your specifications. Some guests refer to the featherbed as "sleeping on a cloud". If this is not your experience, our staff is available in person from 7am-9pm to make adjustments for individual comfort, call a taxi, make restaurant suggestions, give directions, or just chat about the Island's unique charm and variety of activities.
Please let us know how we can make your visit extraordinary.

We stayed at the Sherburne Inn June 5th and 6th. Unfortunately our trip was shortened due to Ferry cancelations off the mainland due to High winds and rains. We took the first ferry out of Hyannis on the Grey Lady at 6:30. It's only a 1 hour boat ride to the island. The inn is only about a 10 minute walk from the harbor and it wasn't bad carrying the overnight bags. I had read about the breakfast baskets and was ecstatic when we were offered our basket the first morning. The room was cute and perfect for the 2 of us. The best was very comfortable and warm with the winds that were still blowing that morning. I chose the Sherburne because of the bathroom in the room. It's SMALL; just large enough for a toilet, small sink and stand up shower. We met Susan, the Innkeeper later in the day on Tuesday. She is a sweet lady who is terrific at what she does. The only draw back to our stay was the renovation of the house directly out of our window. We were woken by nail guns and hammers earlier then we would have liked. It wasn't terrible though, it was like a alarm to wake up for the breakfast basket that would soon arrive with fresh fruit, vanilla yogurt, and fresh warm breads/muffins.
Lastly, don't worry if you schedule a late boat off the island and have luggage. They will let you store it until you have to leave. Worked out nicely for us since the day we left was the sunny and beautiful.

I have stayed at this inn twice, both times in the off season. I stayed for a week each, once in March, 2009, and in January, 2012. Both times, I was the only guest. During the 2012 visit, breakfast was not included. I was always welcomed warmly and felt like a family member. Susan and John Daniels - the Innkeepers - are always attentive and friendly. The rooms are simple yet elegant - the perfect mix for an island 30 miles out in the Atlantic. Bot visits were to see family on the island.

Room Tip: Look on the website. Though the Inn is in the center of Nantucket town, it is located on a small, on...

We are so glad you found us for your off-season accommodations while visiting family on island. Since Nantucket is our year-round residence, we keep our Inn open year-round welcoming a variety of guests during the off-season. It does feel like family around our in-town neighborhood whether you've been here 25 years or 25 minutes. Hope we'll see you again this Winter!

This is a very nicely maintained Inn which is a short walk to the center of town. We stayed in room 7 which is described as very small on the website. They were telling the truth, the room is very small as they described but we expected that. The Inn is very clean. We only met one staff member, Pauline, who is very nice and works nonstop to attend to the needs of the guests. The breakfast basket is very cute and dropped off outside the door without disruption. They stored our luggage for us after checkout until we had to leave for the airport. We had a lovely, private stay and would love to go back.

Thank you for your short 'n sweet review of our Inn. It is just right.
We are currently preparing our young and eager staff, our 8 charming guest rooms, and our tree-shaded lawn and gardens for the very busy summer season that begins mid-June. Nantucket literally blossoms in every way possible. So much so that the Island has been named "#1 Best Island in the World" by National Geographic! Perhaps you'll come back to visit us in the summer when Nantucket is in it's full glory.

Open year round even though the Visitor Services literature does not say so. Even has a parlor with a working fireplace. Nice Federal-vintage town house, perfectly restored and full of serious antiques and art.
As an ultra-offseason winter tourist more interested in the natural landscape, all this niceness was a tad wasted on me, but it was admittedly fine to be pampered coming home to such high-end accomodations after a long day out in cold wind and drizzle.
A great central but quiet location, easy walk to/from both ferry piers and a good start/finish point for walking or running loops in all directions that include multiple historic, architectural, craft, and landscape features and tourist conveniences.
Not the cheapest but still in the ballpark, and an unexpectedly fine place.

I have been wrong before, but usually I can tell in a phone call what sort of experience I can expect at a hotel or B&B, and the Sherburne Inn was no exception. From our first contact to make a reservation, my partner and I had a pretty good idea that we would find friendliness and genuine hospitality there, and we did. The owner, Susan, was not there when we arrived, which usually is a bad sign, but not this time. We walked into the beautiful old house to find classical music playing, and tea and cookies set out. It was as if the house wrapped itself around us and said, "Come on in!" We placed a call on the house phone, and Susan promptly answered, explaining that she was a bit delayed but would be there in 20 minutes. She told us to go on into our room and make ourselves at home.

We stayed in Room Two, which, though small, was ultra clean and comfortable. The bed was like sleeping in a cloud and contained the kind of high-quality sheets and comforter that always make us wonder why we don't buy them for our bed at home! The inn is situated in a quiet area just a short walk from the ferry docks, and an equally short walk to the center of town. We had never been to Nantucket before, and although December is obviously a very quiet time, we have to say it felt magical there, with the town fully decorated for Christmas.

Our stay was unfortunately only for one night, but Susan provided helpful tips on how to make the most of it. Because it was the off-season, the breakfast baskets were not provided, so we can't comment on those, but we imagine, based on everything else during our stay, that they are a nice touch. It's clear that Susan enjoys sharing a very special place with others.
