Everything was said when we mentioned we were coming from Union Street inn: "don't expect the same breakfast". It was definitely different and in many ways .
No dining area for the guests to have their breakfast: "we bring a basket to your room" but they forget to tell you that you need to get up anyway and make your own coffee downstairs then find a place to put the basket on (no table in the room), literally 3 teaspoons of yogurt at breakfast tell you a lot about the generosity of the place(see photo complete breakfast for 2 people). The building is nicely located, we stayed in room N°5, the door lock was difficult to function, a small and average quality bathroom, the hair drier was down, (I had to ask for another one), a different perception of so called luxury linens and mattress , our luggage stored in an unlocked garage (!)while waiting for our flight,The kind of atmosphere where you feel uncomfortable and certainly not at home whatsoever. Yes those little details when added together make the difference specially when compared to the Union street inn where we stayed the day before (at a lower rate!), their real sense of luxurious, their exquisite taste in everything, attention to details, nice, knowledgeable, extremely attentive staff with excellent advices, generous delicious breakfast and afternoon treat. Perhaps Susan should spend a couple of days there!
Unfortunately, Sherburne is not the place where we will come back .

Room Tip: Don't Go There!

We mention the Sherburne Inn’s ”Breakfast Basket” feature when our guests arrive as it is a unique and popular concept for enjoying breakfast in bed, in your room, or if guests prefer, joining others around the fireplace in our parlor, or perhaps bringing the basket to our sun deck or our garden. All these areas have tables and chairs (even cushions) for our guests’ comfort.
So, yes it is true that we do not have a breakfast room where our guests must come to be served breakfast. Instead we have lots of breakfast venues for our guests to choose.
Since the baskets are individually prepared each morning with warm-from-the-oven baked goods, fresh seasonal fruits topped with a few tablespoons of yogurt, and chilled fruit juices, Sherburne Inn guests can ask for more or less of any of these items. We will gladly accommodate special requests.
Our carpeted garage luggage storage has a lock on the door. We’ve locked the door for many of our guest’s who have asked us. Leaving it unlocked seemed to be more convenient to the majority of our guests.

Oh, and I was happy to discover the hairdryer in room #5 was immediately re-activated when I pushed the reset button.

One of Nantucket’s greatest features is the vast variety of accommodations available to our visitors - historic inns, guest houses, hotels, resorts, timeshare condos, house rentals. All of us in the hospitality field put considerable efforts into making sure our visitors enjoy their stay on Nantucket. Please come visit us!

This place is lovely! Very nice rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. We got a room with a balcony and its very cute. But the Breakfast Basket was the best! Its our first time in Nantucket and we love it! :) We will definitely come back!

Spent our 14th anniversary at the Sherburne Inn in Nantucket. Room 3 was on the main level of the home and also at the bottom of the stairs going to the next level and just a few steps away from the reception area. It was small, as expected, nice and had a VERY tight bathroom. Pleasantly furnished but no place to sit in the room really except for one small uncomfortable chair. There was a small outdoor deck on the main level of the inn with four white wicker chairs which is where we went with our breakfast basket. There is no "living space" inside the home for guests on the main level except for the reception area. Since there is someone usually at the reception desk during the day and it is a "through way" for the guests of at least 7 of the 8 guest rooms, it is NOT a place sit and chat, meet other guests, read a book or grab a coffee. It seems odd to me that Nantucket does not allow a B & B to serve a full breakfast. It is something we knew about but until you experience it, you don't really know get it. It is the only town I have ever been where it is regulated. There must have been a rule about the size of yogurt servings too. The maximum appeared to be about 2 tablespoons. Coffee is available during a small (to me) window of time in the morning only. The baked goods in the baskets were fine as were the evening treats which were usually cookies on a tray in the inn's entry way. Since breakfast baskets are left at your door between 8:00 and 8:30, it is not ideal for early risers. If I were to return to Nantucket, I would be looking elsewhere (and would likely be spending more) mainly because we found it difficult to really relax.

This is actually a very helpful review even though we did not receive high marks. The "Cottage Garden" room #3 is our smallest and least expensive guestroom – perfect for a traveling single or a couple on a budget, but not a good choice for those celebrating special occasions such as an anniversary, birthday, honeymoon, or an engagement. We have many other guest rooms to choose from. For instances, I would have recommended our reviewer consider “King of the Hill”, room #8 that offers an impressive king bed, large private bathroom with tub/shower and your own private balcony tucked away on the second floor of the Inn with ultimate privacy!

We have taken great care to present each of our unique guest rooms in descriptive detail on our website including several photos, and a floor plan with square footage so our guests can decide what is just right for their visit and budget.

We encourage you to call or email us to discuss your preferences and priorities so we can assist you in making just the right choice.

We are known and appreciated for our outstanding guest services which does include a central reception area where a staff member is available from 7am-7pm to call a taxi, make a dinner reservation, provide fresh beach towels, get you a refill of yogurt or orange juice, point you in the right direction to Main Street, arrange a tour… whatever will enhance your visit or add a special touch to a celebration, we are available.

We look forward to the opportunity to assist our guests before they arrive on Nantucket and during their visit.

My wife and I had another enjoyable time in Nantucket last July. The Sherburne Inn was centrally located but off the beaten path. The hosts were gracious and accommodating, and the Inn was quiet, comfortable, and charming.

Room Tip: The Inn's website accurately depicts the rooms.

At $400 per night, this inn's rate rivals some of the top end resorts in downtown Nantucket. While the location is great and the owner/employees are super nice, it's an old house with very thin walls (= no privacy). I spent a week here with my girlfriend, and we felt like we had to tiptoe around. Pretty sure other guests could even hear us talking in our room.

At first this was a perplexing review of our Inn as we receive so many compliments on the quiet, peaceful location of our in-town Historic property.
Perhaps this guest was expecting a very different experience than can be found in a boutique B&B built in 1835.
We have tried to be extremely informative on our website in describing and photographing each of our unique guest rooms including providing a floor plan with square footage!
Our guests appreciate that young guests must be at least 12 yrs old, and that we do not accommodate pets. This helps to make our Inn quiet and comfortable.
Considerate guests are always welcomed and appreciated, however we are sorry if this was uncomfortable for you. We wish you had told us your concern while you were here, as we would have suggested several methods to make your room feel more private, like turning on the window AC unit to supplement the central AC system and create a background white noise.
Perhaps one of the three high-end Nantucket resorts hotels would be more to your liking next time you visit the Island. Unfortunately you will find that these hotel room rates are almost double our B&B room rates.

We returned to Nantucket to celebrate 50 years of marriage and could not have chosen a better place to stay. Love the Sherburne Inn and all the staff. Susan, the owner, is so friendly and helpful along with the rest of the staff. The complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate covered cranberries the day of our anniversary was such a surprise and so special. The presentation made it even more special. Can't say enough good things about the room and the inn - cleanliness, comfortable bed, breakfast basket delivered to our room each morning, snacks and ice tea in the afternoon, sherry and homemade cookies in the evening. How wonderful!!
We especially loved our room with the porch. Sitting on the porch sipping coffee and eating the delightful "goodies" in the breakfast basket each morning was a special treat. If and when we return to Nantucket we will definitely stay at the Sherburne Inn.

Room Tip: Did not see the other rooms but love the room with the porch.

My wife and I returned to Nantucket after being away for several years. We've always stayed at Sherburne Inn, albeit with the previous owners. Coming back was fantastic. The inn has changed slightly, but in a positive way. Our room was extremely comfortable and super clean. Our bed was very comfortable and it took only minutes to nod off.
Sue (our innkeeper) was very friendly and helpful in storing laptops prioir to check in.
It's great to come back to a property which was always consistent and find it to be one step up from previous visits. Can't wait to come back next year.
