“my favorite place to stay in Nantucket”

I have been to Nantucket several times and it's my second time at the Brass Lantern....this charming old inn is the perfect mix of luxury and simplicity....the fragrant gardens bursting with lilies toward the end of July....afternoon tea with homemade cookies is a perfect touch after a day on the beach....i wish i could stay here forever.... AND they are pet friendly which is an extra bonus for us....all the staff including the owner went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. Very sad that the trip is over but hope to be back in the future.

My husband and I have stayed at the Brass Lantern Inn several times both as a couple and with our son. We have had great experiences every time. The inn is steps from everything downtown and yet is big enough to have a variety of rooms to suit every need. The staff is very friendly and their dining area is nice with a patio to sit outside as well.

Room Tip: The Campanula is near the back of the Inn, very private and a pretty color.

I write a glowing review each year after I return from 'The Brass Lantern' because for a constant traveler like myself (work/pleasure) and for my partner (pleasure) it is this wonderful Inn that gives us that sense of 'well-being and happiness' that one only finds a few times in life when traveling. Luckily for us, our favorite spot, The Brass Lantern, is within driving distance of Metro NY so we have now passed our 7th consecutive year. First. I'd like to say that I know there are a number of elaborate and luxurious 5* hotels on Nantucket that could rival the 'Ritz Carlton Naples' as a beach resort. What a loss for all of the visitors who spend so much money, of course benefiting from every luxury service and surroundings that these hotels can supply when in honesty, they could be staying on any beach resort around the U.S. That is a pity as the biggest bonus of staying at the 'Brass Lantern' is Michelle Langois' brilliant interface of giving you 'above expected luxe extras' in her beautiful Inn while making you sure you 'sense' that you have the luck to be on the 'Enchanted Island' of Nantucket which…is the most important element of the visit! This is why I am constantly in awe at how Michelle manages to keep the hotel rooted to give you the 'Air of nantucket' while in that genre, providing you with so many wonderful extras that elevate the true sense of this wonderful island that is 'one-of-a-kind'. As I always mention, the service is second to known but in the true style of the island…it is easy and warm and there when you need it and not in your way if you just want to putter about the wonderful pantry and make yourself a cup of some of the BEST gourmet teas I have ever been offered with no restrictions on how much you can indulge! This , of course, falls into one of the many 'special luxe touches' that Michelle provides, a tea service with wonderful teas and homemade cookies and usually a special extra (like the homemade macaroons we had which were to die for). Other amenities luxe are the constant bottles of water in your room and top Crabtree and Evelyn products. I always look forward to the 'top of the line' luxury linens that Michelle has used for every bed in the Inn, from the smallest room to the most deluxe. The beautiful garden, designed for the guests, is an oasis of calm and joy after a day at the beach or for taking your breakfast.. 'Al Fresco'. This is what I mean by 'Nantucket luxe'. These are all things that enhance a 'Nantucket experience' while making sure you are enjoying the unique and wonderful feel of where you are. This is worth more to me than a 5*+ hotel charging 3x the price without giving you any sense that you are on Nantucket. Michelle has once again upgraded the inn by opening up the main sitting room and adding luxurious furnishings that make it a very welcoming area to sit reading or enjoying a brief chat with other guests during 'tea time'. We truly enjoyed this room on the one afternoon it rained and we spent a wonderful hour trying several teas and treats while meeting some very nice people from the U.S. as well as Europe. Each year I note that more Europeans (mostly French and English) discover the Inn and continue to return and I do enjoy a good conversation in French! Again. What is it about the Inn that attracts people who are very agreeable and interesting ? Je ne sais pas ! The Inn offers reasonably priced local wines with different small appetizer plates that you can order if you'd like to take your pre-dinner 'Wine and hors d'oeuvres' in the sitting room or the garden before going to the many TOP restaurants close to the Inn. As for the rooms. Michelle manages to bring touches of 21 C luxe to all of the rooms with lovely
toiletries and bathrobes, and as I said... beautiful luxe linens in the bathroom and also found on the most comfortable beds.. ever! The small flat screen televisions are perfect for these rooms and there is a plethora of stations
and many accommodations have a half-fridge ( to keep your wine cool?) Each room has specific lovely touches from the smallest standard to the Deluxe 'Brandt Point' with the million dollar view of the harbor. I'd call these rooms Nantucket-boutique luxe. Of course, it depends on how 'luxe' you want.. by which room you decide to take but the same sense of comfort and cozy surroundings can be found in each room. BTW….this is an Inn that shines it is kept up so well. Beyond clean in all areas. The staff is friendly and warm and Sharon who has been Michelle's 'Concierge' and The One Woman Front Desk Welcome Person' remembers everything about us …likes…dislikes…special needs…after one or two repeat visits. There is a new member of the Staff who runs the inn in Michelle's absence and his name is Scott. We liked Scott immediately and he will go the extra distance to make sure your stay lives up to your expectation. He helped us with an issue even after we had left the Inn! But still..it is Michelle who brings that extra 'something' that brings her clients back year after year. I always say she is a font of information and more, as we learned on this last trip, she is a problem solver for all issues …very small to grand! She adores her clients and it shows by the attention she lavishes while people are taking breakfast or at any other time of the day. Need a good restaurant that would suit who you are? Michelle, like all great Hoteliers, will have the knack of suggesting the perfect place for you. She is always at your disposition. Again…'Enchanted Cottage' is a term used far to often but when it comes to the Brass lantern…I can think of no better description. Can't wait for our next visit

Wow! Thank you for your generous and detailed review – you are loyal and frequent guests and our challenge is to make each of your visits just a little better than the last.

On our website and in our advertising, we often say that the Brass Lantern offers ‘traditional Nantucket hospitality in a classic setting’ – but your words have really captured the gracious accommodations and Nantucket holiday experience that we strive to offer to our guests – thank you!

Brass Lantern Inn offers a laid back vibe, friendly helpful service and a great location and a parking lot. Breakfasts are light and there is a patio where you can enjoy it. Rooms are cozy. We shall return! Love the beach chairs!

We stayed at the Brass Lantern Inn for our first trip to Nantucket. Our 14 wk. old, well-bahaved pup joined us and we had a lovely stay. The Inn is a very short walk from the Steamship Authority ferries and easy walks to downtown, some beaches, restaurants, museums, the beautiful historic library, and the WAVE transit bus stops. It couldn't be more convenient! Oh, and the sheets were heavenly. ;-)

Our pup was welcomed with special goodies and was very happy here during our two-night stay. The room was exceptionally clean and the homemade breakfast items and afternoon treats were delicious!

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Scott for recommending Gail's tours, and for checking to see if we could take our pup with us. Gail was wonderful and allowed our pup to sit in the front seat with one of us during the two-hour tour of Nantucket. It was one of many wonderful pet-friendly experiences on the island.

We look forward to coming back and staying long enough to spend some time relaxing in the beautiful garden/patio area!

So happy that you chose to stay with us for your first trip (hopefully the first of many) to Nantucket, and also that you got to experience a lot of what the island has to offer. Gail's tour is very nice, it is a great way to see the island. We hope that you and your dog will come back to stay with us!

We've stayed at the Brass Lantern for quite a few years. We took a couple years off from going to Nantucket and returned once again this past Fourth of July. This inn is fantastic, the rooms/bathroom are spacious and clean, the staff are friendly and super helpful and the grounds are beautiful. Its located right in town so you can walk everywhere. Once you stay at this inn you feel like your part of their family and treated as such. Can't recommend this inn enough!
