We were referred to the hotel by one of our friends on the island, who said it was quite charming and the renovation well done. We stayed for one evening, as I delivered a piece of my work (I am a furniture maker) to a client on the island. We did not eat at the hotel.
The place was sparkling clean, fresh and well appointed, and convenient to the downtown wharves. The rooms were newly done, with extraordinarily well thought out bathrooms and layout. While an old hotel, the entire place has undergone major work, and the elevators, spa, fitness center and public spaces are all spotless and look essentially new, with a decorating twist that blends them into the historic fabric of the place.
The staff was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, and Jamie Holmes, the General Manager, clearly has a love for the place and for the island that he is more than willing to share. The people he has working with him are equally engaging. The fitness center is brand new, and I just wish I had brought my workout clothes (they do have some for sale if you left yours behind).
Breakfast in the morning is a continental breakfast that was every but the equal to the one we just experienced at the Willard Intercontinental in Washington DC. The breakfast room is sunny and bright, well appointed and the food fresh and attractive, as well as nutritious.
In short - I would definitely go here for our next on-island experience.
