“Reliable and Popular”
Reviewed 11 July 2008

Reliable is a good way to describe this popular restaurant on Nantucket. Brotherhood of Thieves has been around for ten or more years now and has remained popular as a somewhat moderately priced place for simple dining. The burgers are quite good and are accompanied by curly fries and all the fixings. The chowder and lobster bisque are wonderful and the compliment of salads and other offerings are typical of island fare.

On my last visit I had the opportunity to dine upstairs for the first time and liked the difference in decor. Soft greens and blues and more intimate dining spaces are quite inviting and in sharp contrast to the dark wood and pub atmosphere of the first floor.

On an island where a $38 entree is commonplace, Brotherhood of Thieves is a less expensive option for those who want good food and good service without a lot of fuss. I highly recommend the place. Be prepared to wait for a table at this popular place. They'll give you a hand held buzzer that will vibrate when your table is ready. Meanwhile, you can shop up and down Broad Street while you wait.

“Good Food & Cool Vibe”
Reviewed 30 May 2008

My wife and I grabbed a casual dinner at Brotherhood of Thieves when we were on the island this past weekend. The food was good, large portion size, and ambience were all positives, whereas the noise and proximity of other diner's tables to our own were the only negatives. Definitely worth a try for the burgers and fries.

“Wonderful salads”
Reviewed 13 May 2008

We ate a late lunch one afternoon so were not very hungry at dinner time. We ducked into this restaurant for a lite dinner, got salads and thoroughly enjoyed them. The salads (I got the FIELD-GATHERED ORGANIC GREENS and my companion got the CRANBERRY NUT CHICKEN SALAD) were more than generous and were beautiful. A mixture of beautiful greens, mesclun mix, etc.

Accompanied by a small collection of tasty breads and butter.

Very nice.

“Always a favorite.”
Reviewed 27 April 2008

It's becoming a tradition of sorts to grab lunch at the Brotherhood on our arrival day and then to end our trip with a stop here as well. They always delight!

“I love this place”
Reviewed 30 March 2007

Always reliable and basically open year round, The Brotherhood is the place you love to come back to at the beginning of the season. The downstairs pub area transports you back 200 years with the fireplace and ancient beams. Sure it's pretty dark at lunchtime, but you could always ask to go upstairs (very bright and new) or eat on the patio if that bothers you.
On-season there are few , if any, specials but what they offer is tried and true. The fried calamari is a favorite, as well as the broiled scrod, seafood casserole, fish taco, and raw oysters in season. (Also plenty of choices - pasta, pizza, burgers -- for non-seafood lovers.) The atmosphere is convivial
They don't take reservations and times, we've waited a very long time outside, but they give you a beeper and the bookstore (and all of Broad Street) is there for exploration.
Since it's gotten impossible to get into a lot of restaurants on the weekends -- who wants to reserve weeks in advance when you're on vacation? --we appreciate The Brotherhood very much.
We were there just last weekend and it didn't disappoint. Fine for all age groups but it is rather difficult for some of us to read the menu in the atmospheric downstairs. The prices are reasonable for Nantucket and you don't feel as if you are in a tourist trap.
