First Congregational Church
Reviewed 6 October 2012

I enjoyed my visit to 1st Congregational Church. The hostesses were very friendly and helpful. My group decided to climb the steps up into the tour. We stopped in the choir loft and admired the beautiful pipe organ and the faux paintings on the ceiling and in the front of the church. We enjoyed the tour guide who talked to us when we finally reached the top. She was very helpful in pointing things out that we could see off in the distance. It was a cloudy day. I'd like to go back on a sunny day.

This is a well organized, safe, hike up the stairs to an amazing view. There are a few landings if you need a break from the 80 steps. Well worth the $5 and the climb! Binoculars are available on each side and the volunteers were helpful and welcoming.

The bell tower of the church affords the best views of Nantucket town, the harbor, and even Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard on clear days.

A beautifully simple church with well-kempt grounds and a view that is the best. At the viewing area are binoculars and a host to greet you.

A $5 donation allows you to view the church & climb the 94 stairs to the steeple. You stop at platforms along the staircase to see the choir loft, the museum & then to the to top. The climb is easy with the stops along the way & the view is magestic. You can see Cape Cod Hospital - 22 miles away, Martha's Vineyard, various lighthouses & of course, the entire island. We visited on "the best day all summer" according to the volunteer who guides you as to what you are seeing from the different windows. Binoculars are at eadh viewing spot (no charge).
