“Who would have thought this was such a gem??”

We were taken here by our tour director - not because we had ever heard of it before.
But - what a wonderful place this is!!
The gentleman who was the docent gave an excellent explanation of the various instruments and other little goodies. We heard exactly how George Gershwin composed his Rhapsody in Blue.
In addition, we saw and heard an old player piano, music hall organ, stringless violin and many other fascinating objects. Well done!!

“Well done and interesting group tour”

Our group of 29 had a wonderful educational tour complete with several demonstrations. The gift shop was a wonderful surprise. There were so many unique gift items related to automated music. I rarely buy items in gift shops, but this was an exception.

“Passed by this many times...planned a "up north" trip around this gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

Husband and wife had a very good tour and appreciated the deep knowledge and love of music of the docents. The tours are all guided and once here one realizes it is the only way to really to be able to hear the many instruments demonstrated. We are already planning to come back with another couple. The idea that music should be appreciated by all, whether one played or not, whether one could afford an instrument or not, whether on could go to concerts or not, over time...it was a very thought provoking tour. We are Western Michigan people so we had driven past this museum many times on the way to other places (the U.P., the Mac Bridge, etc.). We has a Texas plate and an Ohio plate on our way in. Our tour was about 20 people, very nice size. Oh, and there were 2 wheelchairs and we were glad to use one of those.

Our excellent guide had an in-depth knowledge of the history of the items in the museum and took us on an exciting ride through the history of player pianos from the parlor to the dance hall.

“A gem in Northern Michigan”

A fascinating museum of antique musical instuments. The docents are excellent and all the instuments are demonstrated and played which adds to the magic.
A must see.
