“Great dining in a Nice Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

We loved our stay at El Convento. The rooms are
enchanting. The terrace bar is very, very nice.

The restauarnt is superb fine dining. We ate ther
twice and both meals were superb.

The fish is fresh and prpared perfectly. Flakey and
flavorful. The Camarones were also prepared and presented
beautifully.

Service is nothing short of 5 stars.

An overall wonderful experience

This is a beautiful hotel, Only 8 rooms or so but all
have beautiful decor. Above there is a beautiful terrace with bar
and restaurant service.

Below there is a restaurant calle Sitz which is fine dining at its best.
The menu is extensive with fantastic internacional cuisine.
The steak and fish we had were perfectly prepared and presented.
You could almost cut the steak with a fork.

Service was impecable in both the hotel and the restaurant.

5 Stars all around!!!

The moment we step in our room we knew that we were deceived by the hotel. When I made the reservation they told me I got a "junior suite". When we entered the room it was more like a New York City size room (25-30 sq mt at the most) without a sofa or table. So I quite don't understand why it is a junior suite for them. Second, when we tried to lower the curtains, they were broken and they cannot be lowered. We called front desk to let them know and asked for a room change. They told me that they do not have rooms available and that the hotel is fully booked. That sent me a maintenance guy to try to fix the problem. But they were really broken so the guy went to pick some bet linens and arrange to put them outside the rooms window. Third, e hotel offers A/C in the rooms but our "junior suite San Jose" didn't had air conditioner. Instead it had a ceiling fan. When I asked front desk about the AC they told me to turn on the fan. Fourth, the shower hot and cold signs are upside down so if you want hot water turn it to cold and if you want cold water turn it to the hot indicator. Te only good thing about this hotel was the premier location.

The last stop on our honeymoon, this was a great choice. The food was excellent, good location and very charming. The only thing I would say is to book a room towards the back. We were towards the front and across from a living room. Unfortunately the hotel allowed people to party in this living room area, late into the night, which kept us up without being able to sleep. The service at the front desk wasn't amazing as they didn't respond to the noise complaints and a few small other things....nothing that would make me not recommend this hotel but we ordered a bucket of ice which was never delivered and we asked candles to be lit which wasn't attended to. Small things but left us a bit disappointed. Overall though it was a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Pick a room towards the back where there is less noise.

I booked this well located charming hotel for 4 days while visiting Antigua. It is within 4 blocks of Parque Centrale. Initially was a little spooky walking the last 2 blocks at night back to the hotel but didn't run into any trouble. Staff is warm, courteous and professional. Good hotel restaurant. Gorgeous rooftop lounging area with a view of the city.

We had amazing time....weekend romantic getaway at the perfect place!!!
The beds are fantastic, great service, decoration and a great terrace with a fireplace to cozy up and have a drink!
Details all around, they kept our bags while it was check-in time, delicious entrance cocktail, lighting and interior design in the hotel over all are lovely. Really good service and yummy brunch!

Could not find the Stiz restaurant in the search engine, but it is a great little place. My wife had the ravioli in a gargonzola sauce which was rich and very flavorful. I had the gourmet version of a Mayan stew which was wonderful. The service was good with an attentive waiter. The menu was in English and Spanish which was a nice touch as our Spanish is not quite there yet. I would go back in a heartbeat.
