“Experience Antigua at top level”

Best Antigua experience!!! Went with my wife and our 6 month son. The rooms are enchanting, with a private terrace and fireplace. Very romantic indeed. Rooms are very clean as well as the bathroom. Location is a plus, if you like walking, the central park is a few blocks away. The staff of the Hotel is tip/top. El Convento is definitely were Im staying next time we visit Antigua.

El Convento is a charming hotel nestled in the city of Antigua, Guatemala where you can roam through cobblestone streets and are treated to little bits of history. The hotel is small and intimate with a comfortable outdoor bar and a good restaurant, Management and staff are very friendly and do go out of there way to make your stay relaxing.

I was quite put off by the rather significant charge they assessed for doing a relatively small amount of laundry. Aside from that, this small hotel is perfect.

Just bring clean clothes,

If you want a true Antigua experience then this is your place. The hotel is fairly small with about 25 rooms and there is tons of character. You will find a few hidden alcoves and a lovely 2nd floor terrace to relax, read or have a drink as well as a library. The location is in a quiet area in the NE part of town and walkable everywhere. The rooms are very nice and large with all the amenities. Found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Not sure why but at night the terrace was not open when we wanted to have a drink and take in the view....maybe it was just slow so there was not a bartender working. I would suggest they have someone up there always to give guests the option. Other suggestion would be to install brighter lighting in the rooms as it can seem a bit dark. Overall great place and I would return for sure.

Room Tip: Junior Suites are typical hotel room layout, Suites are a bit bigger with two large chairs to relax...

We loved our stay at El Convento. The rooms are
enchanting. The terrace bar is very, very nice.

The restauarnt is superb fine dining. We ate ther
twice and both meals were superb.

The fish is fresh and prpared perfectly. Flakey and
flavorful. The Camarones were also prepared and presented
beautifully.

Service is nothing short of 5 stars.

An overall wonderful experience

This is a beautiful hotel, Only 8 rooms or so but all
have beautiful decor. Above there is a beautiful terrace with bar
and restaurant service.

Below there is a restaurant calle Sitz which is fine dining at its best.
The menu is extensive with fantastic internacional cuisine.
The steak and fish we had were perfectly prepared and presented.
You could almost cut the steak with a fork.

Service was impecable in both the hotel and the restaurant.

5 Stars all around!!!

The moment we step in our room we knew that we were deceived by the hotel. When I made the reservation they told me I got a "junior suite". When we entered the room it was more like a New York City size room (25-30 sq mt at the most) without a sofa or table. So I quite don't understand why it is a junior suite for them. Second, when we tried to lower the curtains, they were broken and they cannot be lowered. We called front desk to let them know and asked for a room change. They told me that they do not have rooms available and that the hotel is fully booked. That sent me a maintenance guy to try to fix the problem. But they were really broken so the guy went to pick some bet linens and arrange to put them outside the rooms window. Third, e hotel offers A/C in the rooms but our "junior suite San Jose" didn't had air conditioner. Instead it had a ceiling fan. When I asked front desk about the AC they told me to turn on the fan. Fourth, the shower hot and cold signs are upside down so if you want hot water turn it to cold and if you want cold water turn it to the hot indicator. Te only good thing about this hotel was the premier location.

The last stop on our honeymoon, this was a great choice. The food was excellent, good location and very charming. The only thing I would say is to book a room towards the back. We were towards the front and across from a living room. Unfortunately the hotel allowed people to party in this living room area, late into the night, which kept us up without being able to sleep. The service at the front desk wasn't amazing as they didn't respond to the noise complaints and a few small other things....nothing that would make me not recommend this hotel but we ordered a bucket of ice which was never delivered and we asked candles to be lit which wasn't attended to. Small things but left us a bit disappointed. Overall though it was a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Pick a room towards the back where there is less noise.
