I stayed at Panal for a week in Antigua in the dorms. Dorm beds have a curtain for privacy and spacious lockers which I appreciated a lot. When travelling in dorms it can be a bit tiring to not have privacy, and the curtains help a lot.
The property has a nice modern design themed around bee hives, and is a good quiet option. The location is a bit off the center, but is near the courthouse and in a well lit area so I never felt unsafe. it is only a few minutes of walking from some good restaurants and cafes.
Decent hostel with bunk beds that were clean and well-equipped. Each cubby had a curtain for privacy, a three-pronged plug, a fold-down shelf, and a reading light.
Why I won't return: too far from the center; dirty shower and bathroom; nothing nearby, street noise.
There was a tienda across the street for snacks. There was a small breakfast and lunch place as well, but we didn't try it. Another guest said it was cheap and good. There were no other restaurants or attractions within several blocks. It is 10 blocks from the central park.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and was very noisy with cars, alarms, and the TV at reception.
The top bunk was hot with no ventilation.
BONUS: there is an adorable bulldog named Yoda who "guards" the place.
