We arrived at El Cirilo after a harrowing flight through a lightning storm from Flores. We were warmly welcomed by Ricardo, the owner, and Oscar, the manager. It was late, it was raining, but Ricardo and Oscar not only suggested a place to eat, they drove us there, lent us 200 Quetzales and an umbrella, and told us where to get a taxi to return. Now that's service!
This small, seven room hotel is so attractive, you must experience Otto appreciate it. The ruins it incorporates are wrapped into to flawlessly. Our room was very well appointed and comfortable. Five options for breakfast, as well as a decent menu for dinner, even though the dining room is only for guests.
This is what a boutique hotel is all about.

Maybe the most perfect hotel I have ever stayed in. Flawless merging of character and modern comforts. Staff super attentive. We loved every minute of our two nights here and really did not want to leave. The breakfasts are delicious but dinner was average. It is a bit of a walk into town but it is safe and the weather was perfect (our 3 and 5 year old daughters walked back and forth with no issue). If you take a carriage ride on a horse (we learned the hard way), they cannot take you here. So we paid a lot of money for our kids to go on a carriage ride to take us back to the hotel, when we were told that the horse cannot go that far. Ho hum, all worth it. We stayed in room #6, stunning. My husband mentioned hearing snoring in a nearby room in the night, but I am a light sleeper and didn't hear anything (and no, it was not me snoring!).

There is a nice grassy area and on our last day we played What's the Time Mr Wolf there so the kids could run around before our flight. Worked a charm. Will be back!

Room Tip: They are all beautiful. We stayed in #6.

What a lovely place this is! The private garden and pool among the ruins could not be more beautiful. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a fountain gurgling outside the window and reading chairs near the corner fireplace. The staff was friendly and accomodating, breakfasts were fresh and hearty, and the rooms and common areas were beautifully decorated. We enthusiastically recommend Hotel Cirilo and hope we get to return someday!!

My wife and I spent 3 nights (November 15 to 19, 2013) at this unique "hotel", which more resembles an exquisitely designed and styled Bed & Breakfast. After reading the reviews on this site, we had fallen in love with the Cirilo before we even left for Guatemala, and we were not disappointed.
María José Peiró, who works at this hotel and speaks English fluently, was a great help to arrange various services for us: pickup at the GUA airport, pre-book the Elizabeth Bell "Antigua Walking Tour" (highly recommended!), and, upon our departure, provide a private driver to take us to Panajachel at Lake Atitlàn and to pick us up again three days later.
The beauty and serenity of this place and the fact that it and its gardens are very tastefully integrated with the remnants of a church that had been destroyed by an earthquake in 1723 made our stay here unforgettable.
We stayed in room #7, a beautiful small suite with an additional bed in a mezzanine, which was quiet and impeccably clean.

Breakfast and the overall quality of service was excellent. Here is an example:
Upon our rather late arrival (around 10:00pm) after a day on airports and planes with hardly anything to eat, I asked the gentleman who welcomed us and showed us to our room, if we could still get something - anything - to eat. He politely told me that the kitchen personnel had already left for the day.
15 minutes later, I noticed the same person, now in an apron, was setting a table on the inner patio.
Turned out that this table was for us and "the person" who prepared two delicious panini with some wine for us was the owner of the hotel, Ricardo Abularach.
There is no question where we will stay if we return to Antigua.

Room Tip: Rooms 5, 6 and 7 are furthest from the reception / restaurant and totally quiet.

Hotel Cirilo was fabulous from the tasty breakfasts each morning to its fabulous design within the ruins of an 18th century monastery. Oscar, the new hotel manager was most helpful in directing us to a safe ATM, providing us with great directions to the nearby trail to Cerro de la Cruz and arranging delivery of an antibiotic for my wife's ear infection. We had room #7 which is farthest from the lobby. It featured a loft and a comfortable king bed. The bath was clean and the shower powerful with plenty of hot water. A liter and a half water bottle is provided each day and we were able to get an additional bottle when we arrived late at night for a minimal charge. Everyone raves about the banana bread, but the truth is that it comes from a local bakery. They do serve it warm at breakfast, however and it is delicious. The location is slightly out of the way so be sure to take a hotel card with you in case you choose to return by tuk-tuk (which I recommend you do at night).

When we arrived, I was initially a bit worried about the location, i.e. distance to the central park. But it is honestly a 10 mins walk and definitely worth it to be in a quieter area. The rooms are actually quite large and spacious and romantic. These are by far the most comfortable beds we've slept in. The grounds are gorgeous, built among the ruins of a church. There's something unique and calming about the hotel. It's clean and well maintained. The owner is always around if you have questions.

Other than breakfast, I would not recommend eating at the hotel, as the food is mediocre and there are a TON of options in Antigua, but not to say that the service wasn't great. They can even do room service for you.

We will definitely come back to stay here one day!

Room Tip: Ask for room #4 or higher, as they are further away from the restaurant/lobby area so a bit more qui...

I recently spent two nights at each end of my Guatemalan vacation and must say that this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The hotel itself is build amid and within the ruins of an 18th century church that was destroyed by two earthquakes. The rooms are spacious and embody the feeling of the old as well as the new. Most of all is the service. Ricardo Recinos, the Hotel Director, made sure our stay was exceptional. He arranged for packed lunches for those of us leaving early for a visit to Tikal, drove us to our restaurant one evening, and just made sure there was nothing we needed. I would highly recommend this beautiful and peaceful hotel. One more thing….the breakfast was fabulous!!!!! All in all, A+. Thank you.

Room Tip: all rooms are excellent!!!
