“Nice hotel, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

Well located in the small city of Antigua. Hotel staff were friendly. Breakfast buffet was fairly good. It's a family orientated hotel, so for kids, it's great. Nice playground and clown at breakfast. Overall, we were very happy with the hotel.

Room Tip: We had 2 parrots outside our room which were very noisy during the day:-) So, if we wanted to take a...

From the moment you walk through the front door, you realize you have reached a special place. The greetings from the staff are plentiful, and the staff - from the dining room staff to the maids - were attentive and classy. The rooms were so nice with plentiful amenities, a fireplace, and a dispenser with purified water. Laundry is done quickly and reasonably. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a charming place to stay while in this very interesting city.

We routinely spend a week at this property every June as part of a medical mission trip. The hotel is beautiful, the grounds well maintained and the rooms are very comfortable. What makes this place special is the wonderful service provided. Traveling as a group of 70 people can be quite complicated but they went above and beyond to make the check in and check out process as smooth as possible. They even set up the buffet breakfast early for us so we could arrive in a timely manner to the local hospital. I did not hear of any request from our group that wasn't courteously fulfilled. Guisella at the front desk went above and beyond to help us with billing issues upon departure of our group. We cannot say enough positive things about the hotel itself as well as the amazing staff. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay and we look forward to returning next June!

Spent two nights here with my daughter at the end of a week-long Guatemala journey. Was generally pleased with the hotel. The rooms were very nice and the beds extremely comfortable and well appointed. The gardens of the hotel are beautiful and the public areas in general are among the prettier I have seen. The front desk staff was very helpful. As other reviewers have said, it is a very large hotel, so there is a lot of activity all the time, including weddings and other meetings on the weekend. This just leads to a lot of activity and noise. It also means that the pool, etc., is more suited to kids than a relaxing time for adults. The restaurant was surprisingly reasonably priced and the food we had was quite good. My only significant complaint is that it was quite difficult to get service there. On several occasions, we waited 15 minutes to be served. While I was not in a hurry, and the sublime views were wonderful, this seemed off for an establishment of this caliber. It was also rather complicated to secure pool towels. A bit of attention to some of these matters could make a good hotel great. It is also a very good location, within about 5-7 minutes' walk of the main square and quite close to the Iglesia San Francisco and the Santa Clara convent ruins. Overall, I would say that this is a very good choice for families with small children, but I'd think twice about a romantic weekend.

Room Tip: It seems that nearly all the rooms open onto the central courtyards in some way. I suspect that the...

I recently spent a weekend at Porta Hotel with my wife. It had been around 25 years since I last stayed at the hotel formerly known as Hotel Antigua. We were surprised to see that although many parts of the hotel remain the same, it has expanded and evolved beautifully. Quality has been preserved, restaurant is still great and the service is good. Only minor issues with the service at the restaurant, was a bit slow at dinner time.

This is a hotel that delights throughout every point of your stay, from the beautiful rooms, the service at the front desk, the excellent restaurant...

I've brought a group of 60 some medical personnel for 5 years and each year the team members rave about the food, service and rooms. The grounds are lovely. The breakfast buffet is amazing -- worth a trip. Coffee is grown on the owners 'finca' and is delicious.

We'll be back again next year!

Room Tip: I love the rooms near the pool and restaurant. Others in our group like the new area near the infin...
