“Unforgettable Experience”
Reviewed 16 February 2013

This place is amazing. Pictures absolutely do not do this property justice. With chocalate factory, pool and spa, museum, and beautiful gardens, this place is amazing. There are weddings everyday, but they dont hinder the experience whatsoever. The halways are lines with beautiful concrete troughs filled with elegant red flowers floating in them. There are 1000's of candles lit throughout the hallways at night. This place is absolutely amazing. It is very expensive, but a must see in Antigua.

It is transporting yourself to another era. It is just magical. Loved the hotel and the food is even better. Top notch chef. I believe the best in Guatemala. I highly recommend it for a romantic stay or a destination celebration. Don't miss the spa!

Absolutely beautiful hotel set within the grounds of ruins that were excavated by the owner of the hotel. Staff very friendly and courteous. Luxurious suites. Food above average but might not be considered adequate for "foodies".

Casa Santo Domingo was one of the best places we have ever stayed. We selected one of premier rooms, and it was superb! We had a bedroom area, living room area, dining area, and two significant patios with great views. It was a birthday celebration for my husband, and we were enjoying our 5 day stay in the lap of historical luxury. The hotel itself is a historical destination. There are numerous and impressive historical museums and art galleries on the beautiful grounds. They have built the hotel around the ruins of the monastery while keeping the character of the old world. Our room even had a wall fountain that was either part of the original structure or built as if it were. The architect has done a wonderful job, and the hotel owner (a Guatemalan) has superb taste in art. The restaurant was also incredible. The food was top grade and delicious (contrary to Fodor's review, which may have been outdated). The restaurant is in covered patio offering the best of the outdoors with intimacy and romance, created in part by candles in all areas and offers beautiful classical music befitting the monastery atmosphere. The spa was nothing special, but one did not need the spa to have a great experience here. The grounds were more beautiful than most five star hotels, and the pool was lovely. Plus the city of Antigua offers so much history, culture, art, and outdoor experiences.

We would highly recommend Casa Santo Domingo. It is one of the best five star experiences we have every had, and it by all means had the most reasonable prices.

Room Tip: The photos are accurate. If anything, we found our room was even better than the photos. Make certai...

Hi, My wife and i booked this Hotel through Expedia.com and they had a deal going where we would get breakfast included in our stay. We decided to book a pretty nice room then; to our surprise when we got to the Hotel two different receptionists told my wife that breakfast was not included. We felt cheated on for our money. This ruined our whole stay. We told them to verify several times but to our disadvantage they kept saying that they had nothing in their system.
When we were checking out i asked to see the manager and after a while of waiting the manager came out; She looked at the File and told me that breakfast was included in our stay and how come i hadn't taken it. i laught and explained to her what had happened, she then proceded to give me a $10 refund! what a joke, she sent us to the bar to drink some soup and drinks. All of us where super upset. never going back to this hotel. They only care about their money and not customer service.

Casa Santo Domingo comes close to perfection without quite getting there. It would be easier to list the areas that are lacking and let yo u assume that everything else is faultless. The internet access is not only expensive but also very weak and intermittent. The bathrooms are somewhat standard which clashes with the luxury of the hotel and the room in general. Everything else is truly delightful. The hotel restaurant serves pricey but imaginative food. The museum on the hotel grounds is fascinating. The pool is unremarkable but heated. The steam rooms are ready and barely crowded. There are beautiful touches all over the hotel: antiques, artwork, rose petals... The location is an easy walking distance from the central plaza.

Room Tip: The luxury is in the hotel itself. Chose a moderately priced room and spend your time in the common...

Stayed here one night on a business unit and was immediately transported into a peaceful, serene, and tranquil setting. Absolutely beautiful property complete with old-world culture and ambiance. A must-stay for anyone in the Antigua area.
