Hotel Casa Santo Domingo, located in Antigua Guatemala, is a very nice hotel, in a unique location. It is an old monastery, renovated, with a colonial look. The city is paceful, nice, with a mysterious atmosphere. We were with my wife for a wedding in the old church, inside the hotel.
However, our surprise was that in this very expensive hotel there are basic services not included in the fare. For example, it is incredible that wifi connection is not included, and an additional payment of $8 is needed. Lines for having a breakfast may last one hour or more. They do not have an included shuttle for the airport. At he end, the experience was disappointing.

Room Tip: If you want to be only resting, it is a nice place. If you need to stay connected, avoid this place.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at CSD. As you mention, we do charge a fee for access to internet and the rate is comparable to other hotels in the area but we definitly appreciate your observation and will look into the matter.

We spent time trying to figure out why this wasn't considered a 5 star hotel...never found out. Everything was incredible.
Food, staff, location, cleanliness, and hospitality everywhere!
Loved the zipline!!!
I travel a lot, and this is the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. Just...wow..

This hotel retains it's past and combines the results of a long past earthquake with the very modern comfort and technology.
The grounds are just beautiful, quiet and peaceful. The rooms are
well appointed, dining is very good and the service is just excellent There are about 300
employees who are always polite and at your service. The pool area delighted my grandchild,
especially the Macaws.
We were able to walk around Antigua, one day visiting churches prepared for Easter and
one day learning how to make chocolate candy! We could have stayed longer than three
nights. It was a pleasure and we hope to go back one day.

Thank you for your comment. As you probably know, Easter season is very busy in La Antigua. We are glad to know that you & your grandchild liked our grounds, the room, pool area and hope you return.

We had the privilege of staying at the Casa Santo Domingo for several days during Holy Week. The hotel and grounds are gorgeous and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Considering that the building and grounds are a museum in addition to being a very busy hotel it would have been easy for guests to feel neglected but this was definitely not the case. The on-site restaurant is excellent as is the restaurant on the hill. The rooms are well appointed and extremely comfortable. Coffee in the rooms is Guatemalan and very good!!! The staff produced beautiful street carpets for the processions that passed in front of the hotel. Small "carpets" adorned the hotel entrance walkway and were changed several times during our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms near the entrance way might be noisy. We were in a back corner and never experienced any nois...

The historical setting of this hotel is beautiful - lovely grounds to wander around. The staff are very polite and very attentive and helpful. We were there over Easter week so it was quite busy. We had a deluxe room which was huge and very comfortable - the hotel has great attention to details - fresh flowers around the place, ground immaculate and they make free coffee and tea available each afternoon at 4 o clock. The location is great - a little stroll from the centre of town which is good. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. Nice pool - our only moan was that we could not get a sunbed around the pool - most of the beds had towels on as if they were being reserved but were empty - the staff need a better idea of who has finished with their bed and who is in the pool. Shame that they cannot make wi-fi free given the price of the rooms.

We stayed here for four nights over Easter. The hotel is an atmospheric and comfortable home in the middle of the colourful colonial city of Antigua. Set in the ruins of a monastery that dates from 1538 it has beautiful, peaceful gardens, many fountains, and a series of small museums (free to hotel guests). You are surrounded by stunning views that include three volcanoes. It is easy to walk to the centre of the city and its many heritage sites.
The staff are very helpful and show great attention to detail. Candles light the scented pathways through the grounds at night and every day a pamphlet of local news and events is left in your room. We stayed in a standard room and it was very comfortable, with a small balcony, twin double-beds, hairdryers, daily-replenished toiletries, and an open fire with a supply of wood. We didn't need the fire as we were there at the hottest time of year and the ceiling fans were very welcome! There is a big swimming pool and spa; some scarlet macaws; and we enjoyed the big wedding that took place in the courtyard on Easter Saturday.
A massive breakfast buffet is included in the room price. Service in the restaurant is quite formal and the dinner menu is rather European with a lot of sauces. It would have been good to have a few more traditional Guatemalan options or simpler dishes. Room service has some alternatives and you can get a light lunch or snacks in the gardens.
We liked the broad mix of international guests and the fact that the hotel is also popular with Guatemalans. The hotel organised its own Easter procession on Palm Sunday and we felt privileged to be invited to take part in that, carrying palms and walking to the ruined church in the grounds for Easter mass. It was a busy time of year for Antigua and the hotel but it remained a pretty peaceful place to retreat to. The staff were brilliant at moving our room when a large family moved in downstairs and wanted to party outside (fair enough, it was Easter!) and so we got to test two different rooms.
We'd definitely recommend Casa Santo Domingo. It is a five-star hotel and of course that comes at a price but for English travellers this is good value (good rate to the US dollar) and we thought the additional food and drink prices were quite reasonable. We won't forget our stay and the kindness of the staff.

No doubt this is one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever been to. It takes a whole day just to visit the hotel's grounds. The room is nice and comfortable. Breakfast is superb.
My only comment is regarding the wifi. The connection in the room was very poor, but nevertheless they charge 9$ a day for using it!!!
