We had a room with a jacuzzi. It was massive and gorgeous, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel is a stunner.

After more than a week in Guatemala we arrived in Antigua and the Casa. The front desk had the wrong reservation dates -- they issued the confirmation -- and even better they issued keys to a room that was already in use. When we tried to order a coffee maker (twice) in the Jr. Suite we had it never semed to arrive. Our room bill was over charged by $200USD and it took the manager more than an hour to figure it out which he wasn't able to do before we had to catch the shuttle out. I would go for the location and the grounds are really super but the staff was far less than five-star. Antigua we will be back but not at the Casa.

This is a fine hotel by any measure, but certainly as compared to any other hotel we visited in Guatemala (the Camino Real and the Intercontinental in Guatemala City, La Lancha near Tikal, the Camino Real near Tikal, etc.).

It is a bit expensive for Guatemala, but well worth the splurge. Others have commented on the grounds (e.g. a beautiful old monastery), which really are lovely. The place is an oasis, especially after a day of touring around town or visiting the nearby sites. The rooms are spacious, nicely appointed and comfortable (although you should try to avoid the rooms on the first floor --the "planta baja"-- as they are a bit dark). For families, the hotel does offer some connecting rooms. We had a suite connecting to a double room, and it worked great for a family of five.

The restaurant is lovely, with a very open feel. The breakfast buffet is great, and this was often the best meal of the day. We also had several dinners at the hotel because we loved the setting (we enjoyed the "plato chapin"). The Sunday brunch is particularly good. My only gripe about the restaurant is that the coffee is terrible, even though fine coffee is grown in Antigua.

The property also has a nice pool area, with bar service on weekends (which could be improved).

Famed Antigua tour operator Elizabeth Bell has her offices (Antigua Tours) on the premises, which makes planning activities very easy (you should consult her before making your reservations and plans for your Guatemala trip).

While this hotel is not cheap, and therefore not for everybody, if you can afford the place, you really will enjoy your stay.

This was the location of a monastery/convent in the 16th century. This place was fabulous. Absolutely beautiful. Ruins. Museums including pieces found on the premises, general art and modern art. Vespers music. played and added to the serenity. I cannot remember if I have ever seen such a beautiful hotel and such a romantic spot. We vowed to go back every year as a romantic getaway. And It is in Antigua which is faulous in and of itself.

The setting and service were second to none. The candles and piped music at night is a great touch. There is a museum, Church and Ruins on the grounds with perfectly manicured gardens with Macau's in the trees. Spend hours wandering the grounds, visiting the museum and art gallery, candle making shop, pottery shop etc. Food is excellent, everyone speaks english and the front desk organised tours, retaurants and even a guide. It is secure with underground parking and just far enough out of the town to be quiet, close enough to walk into town. Decor is true to the setting (Old Convent), comfortable, clean. Cannot recommend this hotel high enough. Only 45 mins from Guatemala City is well worth the trip.

This is the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever visited in Central America. And not because Hollywood celebrities and the former US presidents had stayed there – but due to its unique “espris“. Coming to Antigua Guatemala you first of all are looking forward to being “conquered” by its historical heritage, and Casa Santo Domingo is one of the town’s colonial jewels. Staying at this charming hotel you just follow the style.
Situated in the premises of the former Dominican monastery, the hotel possesses huge flourish territory with ruins of the medieval cathedral, fountains, museums , and even small candle workshop on it.
Rooms are incredibly spacious, convenient and specifically furnished “a la temps colonial”, with working fireplace and personal exit to the garden. Plus all the 5-star hotel facilities.
Service – second to none. Stuff is rather friendly and helpful.
Unforgettable experience.

We spent several days at the Casa Santo Domingo in February 2005. We could not have been more pleased with the "museum" atmosphere. The room with two double beds was luxureous, and the bath was excellent - a large bath tub with shower, every morning new toothbrushes, razors, and anything you might need. The room had a balcony, a working fireplace, and quiet. The room was quickly madeup when we left the makeup request on the door when we went out every morning. Several morning we requested and promply received morning coffee in our room. The adjacent two museums, which are part of the restoration, should be visited more than once. The undergroung parking garage is very well staffed and must be seen to believe; the design and construction sets a standard for other garages. Not even in a Ritz Carlton has the director volunteered to help me and took the time to asked how did I find the hotel and how did I think the hotel could improve. (Only one meal was slow being served.) We plan to spend several weeks in November so that we can enjoy this wonderful hotel as the base from which we will study Spanish.

Guatemala, as well as the guests of the Casa Santo Domingo, are most fortunate to have the Arimany family which preserved historical artifacts which the family so tasefully incorporated in its restoration of the monastery for visitors to Guatemala.
