Owner description: This massive convent was a thriving community of nuns from 1736 until the 1773 earthquake, after which it was abandoned. Now open to the public, tranquil gardens, sparse nuns’ cells and a terrific view from the roof make this a popular attraction.

“interesting history”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

I enjoyed my stroll through the convent. It was a quiet day and easy to imagine the nun's lives before the church was devastated by earthquake. I'm glad I visited these ruins, although ordinarily this isn't my type of activity. It was good to enjoy the quiet and space amidst the hustle and bustle of Antigua.

“explore the maze”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

This partially restored convent houses a museum of church artifacts from the colonial period as well as all the areas where nuns lived, ate , and worshipped in the 16th and 17th centuries before the earthquake which destroyed much of Antigua. The ruins are a maze of tiny nun's sleeping chambers, underground rooms, outdoor gardens and a large church. Put this second on your list of places to visit in Antigua!

“Not just another ruin”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

Impressive church / convent complex. Plenty to see and explore. It's good to take you time and try to imagine life as it was when it was occupied. I visited on a very rainy afternoon (typical September weather!) but it was worth it. Great scenery to take pictures and relax as you interact with history.
