I have to tell you that I chose this hotel based on reviews from TripAdvisor. We haven't even gone on our trip yet, but their service has been outstanding! Claudia Morales in reservations has been my primary contact there. She booked our room, made arrangements for a car from the airport and now has assured me that our daughter may leave her luggage safely with them as she arrives before we do. Their replies are timely too. I cannot wait to see the actual hotel very soon!

Room Tip: I will update as soon as we return from our trip.

This place is perfect, especially on a trip with a significant other. Service was great, rooms are very and the whole building is gorgeous. Nice breakfast in the morning as well. Also, a great location within Antigua, right in the middle of the action.

The location cannot be beat; half a block from the arch and blocks from the central square. The service was top notch and everyone was friendly and attentive. The building itself was beautifully styled and the courtyard perfectly manicured. Our room was beautiful with towering wood beam ceilings, a travertine tiled bathroom and a delightfully plush bed with deluxe linens. While expensive for Guatemala it's right on par for Antigua and with the included breakfast (excellent!) it felt reasonable.

Room Tip: The blue room is GORGEOUS, but just past reception and the living room right on the main courtyard s...

Absolutely one of the best hotels I have enjoyed staying in. We rented the #7 suite, and it was worth it. A great hotel, great service, excellent breakfast (included), excellent staff. The bed was super comfortable and the ambiance was just to die for.

Hotel is located two blocks from the center park and you can literally walk anywhere you want in Antigua. An excellent stay, thank you very much, San Rapahel!

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing, if you want to splurge a little, take #7, it is by far the best!

The hotel has a perfect location in between the Arc/Church Merced and the Parque Central, at the famous street with loads of bars and restaurants, making it easy and safe to walk at night. Very central and perfect location. The hotel is maintained properly and the inside garden and the whole facility is really a place you like to spend time and enjoy. We booked the 'junior suite' and it was perfect. A big room with a fire place, king bed and sitting area. Everything nicely decorated and working. Service is perfect!! One of the best places we have been so far. Really nothing to be done better. Not the cheapest place, but worth every cent and really recommendable.

We loved our stay at the San Rafael. The hotel is small and lovely, with rooms around two courtyards, beautifully decorated with great attention to detail throughout. We particularly appreciated the fresh flowers in our room and throughout the public space. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with a fireplace which we used one cool evening (there was lots of very dry firewood too). We found all the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, and enjoyed meeting one of the owners. The hotel is right in the heart of the old town, two blocks from the Parque Central, and yet very quiet and safe. Our only regret was that, while we were shown the roof-top terrace, it is only accessible through a private apartment, and therefore guests can't spend time there.

We have been visiting Antigua for the last 15 years, multiple times a year and have stayed at most of the good hotels there, the Casa Santo Domingo, El Convento and others. One must stay at the Casa Santo Domingo at least once to experience the hotel and the history behind the place, having done that the only place you need to stay at is The San Rafael. Discovered this hotel on our trip last week. This place is amazing, very exquisitely furnished and filled with a lot of art, the rooms are very nicely done and the bed was one of the most comfortable. The courtyard is very soothing with very well maintained landscape and with ample of sitting space and couches to lounge on. You feel pampered by the staff right from the time you walk in and the service is excellent. We had the opportunity to meet and talk with Wayne who is one of the owners. Wayne and Julia guided us to some really good restaurants. Location of the hotel is very prime. This is possibly one of the nicest boutique hotels in the world, they have the set bar pretty high and I'll be comparing other hotels to it. Can't wait to go back, am think of reserving my room for next Easter right now.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The San Rafael, which opens following a three-year restoration, incorporates the remains of an early structure significantly altered in the nineteenth century. The recent restoration preserves the form of a grand, traditional colonial home with its brick, stone and stucco construction; two courtyards; antique tile roofs; and three water features (including a dramatic wall fountain). Besides the furnished patio where one can enjoy a leisurely breakfast while gazing over the garden, guests will appreciate the elegant and lofty sitting and dining room, the perfect space in which to sip a glass of wine, sit before a roaring fire, or catch up on emails and correspondence. Entering through the gates of the San Rafael, visitors enjoy a sweeping view of the first courtyard with its two fountains and richly varied plantings: Italian cypresses, ficus trees, and the colorful blossoms of native plants. The hotel office and reception are conveniently located off the entry vestibule, where newly arriving guests will be greeted with a welcome beverage, and hotel residents may seek advice on touring the city, securing reservations at Antigua's finest restaurants, or making arrangements for a private excursion. Breakfast is a special occasion here, guests enjoying it while seated around the courtyard or in the dining room. For those fond of coffee or tea upon awakening, and before sitting down to breakfast, complimentary self-serve beverages are available in the courtyard each morning. The breakfast menu includes traditional offerings as well as a rotating array of special dishes. Breakfast is served between the hours of 7:00am and 10:30am weekdays, 11:00am weekends. ... more   less
