I came here reluctantly with my wife and two girls. The place is not the most elegant but very clean and cozy. I had already eaten at several downtown restaurants in Antigua and my expectations were very high.
Carlos the Chef and co owner was the waiter and cook. Looking at him preparing the food and describing how it needs to be done was an experience that made me feel like I was Antony Bourdain. We loved this restaurant!! Is fresh, delicious, nicely presented, authentic and inexpensive. We ate here four times during our vacation. If I go back to Antigua, I am sure I will go back to this gem!

Very nice surprise.

Overall very inexpensive yet the food was very good.

The menu is basic and limited.
We had the chicken soup and the chicken plates.

Both were very well prepared and presented.

The meal includes a beverage.

Maybe its not for everyone, but it satisfied us nicely.

I travel to Guatemala often for work. A colleague of mine who owns a shop in Antigua told me this was her favorite place to eat and the soup was not only inexpensive (for Antigua) but the "best" ever. I have now eaten here twice and have to agree the soup is excellent. The tortilla soup has a tasty tomato base, served in a clay pot and delivered with little dishes (that you empty in the soup) of tortilla strips, onions, cream, cilantro etc. Your meal comes with your beverage and I recommend the Refresco de Jaimaica (Hibiscus). This restaurant is not the larger polished type place with fancy tables and long menus. The decor is basic. The menu typically consists of three options, I keep having soup. But there appears to always be a chicken and/or beef option. The husband/wife team operate this place with such kindness. At this point few travelers/tourists eat here (they haven't discovered it) and it is busy with the locals. It is located at the very last door as you exit town (next to the small bridge) and just a couple of short blocks from Casa Santiago Domingo. I learned they serve breakfast...so on my next trip to Antigua, I will have to try their eggs. They open at 8:00am. If you want to experience a slice of the local without extra tourist frills, give this little joint a try.
