“Rooftop Deck & Great Owner”
Reviewed 3 April 2013

So glad we chose this inn to stay at. Very centrally located, just around the corner from Parque Central, and close to a coffee shop that opens at 7:00 a.m. The owner, Luis, who speaks perfect English, was very helpful in emails even before our arrival, and once we did get there, that continued. He helped us figure out where the Semana Santa processions were going to be (which is an amazing sight to behold), and one night, came to our rescue when our wine opener broke!

He's quite the collector - one could just spend hours looking at all of his treasures. We had the room closest to the stairs to the rooftop deck. We were a couple, so the double beds were a bit of an issue (and a bit short - if you are tall, these beds won't work), but we made the best of it because we loved the room. Right outside your door is a little "family room," with a couch and coffee table, where we surfed the internet (which worked everywhere in the hotel, even the roof!).

Our favorite part of the hotel was the rooftop deck. Every night we would take a bottle of wine, our playbook, some blankets (the room provides you with many) up there, and watch the amazing stars and lights of the town. Really incredible views up there. One night, the Fuego volcano started erupting lava - it was such a surreal experience!

My only quibble with the room is the shower in our room was barely adequate. The hot water just drizzles out, so if you increase the cold water at all, you will have a cold shower. I had to "hug the wall" to get a hot shower, which is necessary this time of year, as Antigua can get cold. But other than that, 5 stars all the way!!

I stayed here in March 2013 with two friends and loved my visit.

In particular, I was ecstatic to find:
1. Great location: located in the heart of Antigua within walking distance (~5 mins) of the park

2. Good service: Luis was very helpful in providing advice and answering our questions

3. Spacious, quaint rooms: The room was spacious with a large bathroom.

4. Good security: The hotel door was kept locked and you had to ring a doorbell to get in. Though a few tourists wandered in at some intervals, on the whole it felt very secure.

5. Beautiful common area: With deck chairs, a pet parrot (?) and greenery

We also used the pickup service (at a charge) from the airport and that went smoothly, though there was a slight mixup about price -- do not pay the driver directly, but pay Luis upon arrival.

Tips on hotel location:
- There is a juice bar called Pittaya's (a bit of a distance away) that is supposed to have great fruit shakes
- There is a bakery two blocks away from *great banana bread* on certain days
- There is a small chocolate museum a block away
- keep your windows shut -- we had some problems with mosquitoes at night

We loved the Posada San Sebastian! Arriving very early in the morning our room was ready for us so we could recover from our redeye. Luis arranged an airport pickup for us also, especially nice with the early morning arrival. The location is perfect-just a block from the Parque Central, and surrounded by fun restaurants and places of interest. The hotel is filled with great antiques and collectibles. We walked around a few times just to take everything in! Fun public spaces-the rooftop patio, the garden with the fountain, and the landing on the second floor all were welcoming and comfortable. We really appreciated the large kitchen that all guests are invited to use. And Luis and Clara couldn't have been nicer-I wouldn't stay anywhere else when in Antigua!

We loved staying here, Luis has collected antiques and collectibles for years and it is fun just to wander around. If you are wanting slick and streamlined don't stay here. The posada is spotless, hot showers and the staff couldn't be more welcoming. The location is close to downtown so walking is easy. We feel we made a new friend with Luis.

Room Tip: We loved our room on the top floor.

I'm not sure who I liked more, Luis or Clara. Both were so warm and welcoming.
I got the chance to stay in two rooms, one downstairs and the other upstairs and both were great. I'm hesitant to use the word room because they both felt like a small home, very warm and very VERY clean. Some of the charm to this hotel are the older furnishings. You may be a little turned off by this, but look closer because although yes, there is a mauve color toilet and 70s flower bathroom tile, there's no dirt in sight. It also reminds you that you're not just staying in another hotel. You're staying in Luis's domain that he's thoughtfully filled with love and a ton of really cool stuff. Seriously, there's a cabinet full of baby Jesus statues. One could never have too many!
This was a real deal too, very affordable and centrally located. Oh AND there's a roof top patio.

Room Tip: Upstairs is quiter, but downstairs have softer beds.

We loved our stay at Posada San Sebastián. The rooms were comfortable and large. Luis is a collector of interesting objects, making walking the property very interesting. The staff is very helpful and friendly and how they keep everything so clean? Clara! She is amazing. Luis was very accommodating to our continually changing schedule. A fine choice if funky is your style. Kitchen available.

Owner is a great guy, very helpful. Place is very charming with his collections of things, as many others have mentioned. Room was nice, clean, and great, hot shower. Bed could be a little softer, but standard issue for the price paid, and no breakfast included. But full kitchen if you want to make your own. Awesome terrace/rooftop with beautiful 360 views. 1 block from central plaza, overall great place. Will DEFINITELY go back.
