“Great place to stay!”
Reviewed 11 May 2013

Really enjoyed my stay! I found the place very clean and quiet. The staff was very friendly. Because of the kind of trip I was on, I didn't use the restaurant or pool. I would stay at this place again.

I had to stay there as my other hotel was overbooked. They were friendly, kind and spoke great English. Then when i returned, they made a special delivery for my power cords i had left to the other hotel!

Gracias!

We stayed at this hotel in Feb of 2013. The hotel has clean rooms to the standards of Guatemala. The beds were comfortable with different types of rooms depending on how many people were to board for the night. A roof top seating area provided a nice place to gather for our group. A restaurant with nightly musicians gave us a good range of foods to eat with an easy to read menu. We had much fun. A pool and spa was available but we did not use that.

Noisy shabby and in disrepair. The bathroom leaked the plug fell off to reveal a tangle of wire that looked dangerous and anything happening in the hotel sounds as if I is in your room . Oh and the bed creaked every time I turned over. I changed accommodation the next morning.

close to the market, bus station, central park. receptionists all friendly and very helpful. hotel was secure and had a safe. clean rooms though ours did not have a window! the walls were very thin. we were watching tv at 10pm and a staff member knocked to tell us to keep it down.. it wasnt very loud.. i could also hear drunk travelers coming in at 2am. evety word of their drunken fight. there is a cosy lounge and dining area though, even a kitchen you could use.

Room Tip: dont take the first floor.

We arrived very late at night and the person who we obviously woke up to come to the door was friendly, helpful and courteous. This place is very comfortable to stay at - cable TV, Wifi and internet cafe, hot showers, good security and they will hold your bags for free for the day!

This place is worth it ticks all the boxes for a great hostel (good location too)

thumbs up !

Room Tip: rooms that back onto the outdoor garden area upstairs are very nice and quiet

I definitely do not recommend this place. We have stayed all over the world, and have never once experienced a place as poorly run as this.

Minuses:
1) Borderline illegal activity....We had reserved 3 nights through Hostelz.com, and paid a 10% deposit. However, we decided to leave a day early. We had no problem with their keeping our deposit; however, they insisted on charging us for the entire night we weren't going to use. We were told we could only cancel through Hostelz.com; that we could have told them 24 hours ago; that there ARE no cancels. When we tried to explain/negotiate, the creepy man at the desk LOCKED THE DOORS AND LOCKED US IN until we paid. We talked to Asistur (the travel police) later that day, because BEING HELD HOSTAGE IN A CRAPPY HOTEL is usually not what a country likes to advertise to its visitors....

This, despite the fact the entire hotel was nearly empty (no wonder on that), and our leaving would have cost them nothing.

2) The staff is amazingly unhelpful. We tried to book a shuttle to Antigua, and the woman just shrugged and said they were full. So we walked a block down the street to a HELPFUL hostel, and he booked us for the next morning.

3) The hotel itself is a case study in Lying With Photoshop. Its rooms and grounds look very little like its website; it is gloomy, dark, and the "every room has a window" fails to mention that most windows look straight at a 12 foot wall, about 15 inches from the window.

4) The staff lets their children run screaming up and down the corridors in the early mornings.

5) The staff likes to have loud conversations/arguments in the corridors during the day, so don't expect a nap or quiet time

6) No breakfast, or food served of any sort.

7) There is no wi-fi, just an old internet room. They have routers, they just apparently can't figure out how to set them up.

Pluses:
1) Well, at least they have a good location near the park, but dozens of other more reputable hotels can also say that :)

There are reviews and there are retaliations against a property. You can guess which one this is. They tried leaving early morning (before 6am), without telling the night watchman and without paying for anything. This was the illegal activity. They were caught and this review is what the hotel gets. At this early morning hour, the doors are still locked from the night before, for the security of the hotel and guest. The nighttime watchman opens them during the night for any guest coming or going, and we leave them open from 8am to 8pm.

This guest made a 3 night reservation through a 3rd party web site, which charges them a 10% deposit. The hotel does not recieve any of this deposit, thus the hotel can not refund it. This guest stayed 2 nights and on the early morning of the 3rd night, they were in the process of walking out on their bill. This, morning of, is normally very late to cancel, but we allowed them to cancel the 3rd night and did not charge them for it. We did charge them for the 2 nights they stayed. We should have charged them something for their attempt of walking out on their bill, but we did not. If they did not like the hotel, why did they stay 2 nights?

All web site photos of the hotel are true and are not photo shopped. You can see the over 30 traveler photos of the hotel, in Trip Advisor, are similar to the hotel web site photos. Trip Advisor should see this and not allow this reviewer to lie directly on the Trip Advisor page, but they allow these lies.

Here is another, the staff's children do not come to work with them. So, obviously, thier children were not running around. Just another retaliation from a guest trying to walk out on their bill and getting caught.

We offer breakfast to groups that arrange it beforehand. We do give you full use of the fully stocked kitchen. Also, there are many restaurants withing a 2 minute walk. I am sorry, but our low rates ($25 to $45) do not give us enough margin to include breakfast.

Despite this guest observations, we can figure out how to set up Wi-fi routers or hotspots. We actually have a full time IT person for our small hotel chain of 8 hotels. It just so happens that this hotel is one that we lease and the building owner has the internet cafe inside the hotel. They do not allow us to offer Wi-fi in the hotel because they think it would cut into their business. Thus, we can not do anything about it until we renegociate our contract, and then we will offer Wi-fi. This is why the hotel is very clear on all the web sites to list that there is no Wi-fi, just the internet cafe. We do offer free Wi-fi in any of our other hotels.

We do not want to decieve anyone. We try to offer a friendly hotel environment and offer a good value for your money.
