WE stayed at the Frederic Koklen Boutique Hotel for one night (2013 09 10). We had flown from Toronto to Odessa via Warsaw and were looking forward to some rest before we boarded our Ukrainian River Cruise. We had booked a standard room and when the very pleasant young receptionist showed us to our room I was delighted with the size and decoration and the very well appointed bathroom(complete with scales ouch!!!!.....I was sure we must have been upgraded. The young lady assured us we hadn't that this was a "standard room" Our room was at the front of the building and surprisingly quiet. We had a very tasty dinner in the hotel restaurant that evening and enjoyed our breakfast in the outdoor cafe the next morning. Great district to walk in and felt quite safe. Wish we could have stayed longer!!!

I'd like to add my vote to the others on the list. The Koklen is a small boutique hotel which offers an exceptionally high standard of comfort and service. Hotel staff in the Ukraine can be a bit offhand sometimes- but not at the Koklen. The smiles and welcome were genuine and nothing was too much trouble throughout our two day stay. Small bowls of jam or honey appeared like magic as we sipped our tea from the samovar in the lobby. The room was gorgeous and the bathroom luxurious. Breakfast was great and our meal in the Sofia restaurant was terrific and very reasonably priced. This hotel is within easy walking distance of most of the main sights and in an interesting part of town. You might be able to find something cheaper in Odessa- but you won't find anything better. All in all this hotel is a real pearl.

We stayed for 3 days in this hotel. One of the best we ever had. Excellent location (quiet and big room, although it is in the city center), very cozy, everything available you may need. The staff is extremely helpful! They have a pro-active attitude. They are always willing to help with all the needs and questions. The breakfast is very good, with enough choices. To our opinion, the management tried to think from a consumer perspective. Their website is good and complete according to reality. The location is great, near centrum and harbor.

Perfect location near the top sites and downtime cafes. In a city where English is not common and Cyrillic signs make navigation difficult, this is a great hotel where people speak English and provide the first class service and smiles that many westerners desire,

I'd like to join the cohort of exceptional reviews for this hotel. Yes, it is expensive, not only by Ukrainian but also American standards. But besides all typical features that one would expect in a good hotel (location, bed quality, cleanliness, service etc.) Frederic Koklen adds lots of intangibles such as unusual for a hotel coziness, extra level of comfort all over the hotel, esthetic pleasure of every detail in the room, that make this hotel pretty unique. At the same time, it is not a museum where you would not be able to relax. Room design and decorations are very well done and we really felt ourselves in a French Renaissance room all the time. I’d like to thank Andrej, Igor and doorbell guys for their service.

Good choice for staying in Odessa. Receptionist was very helpful. Comfortable room. The breakfast buffet was very good although the staff were rather over zealous in clearing plates etc as soon as you have finished eating or drinking anything. Enjoyed our stay here although it is rather expensive for Ukraine.

This was a nice hotel which was well located for central Odessa. Was a bit disappointed there were no tea and coffee facilities, but there was a nice cafe downstairs. Our room had a really nice balcony which was great in the hot weather. The staff were really helpful when we checked out in trying to sort out our onward journey.
