We saw the Hrvatski Narodni Theater (HNT) and it looked very interesting. So we checked the internet and saw that they played Kafkas "The Metamorphosis". The pictures looked like it would be a very physical theatre, so we decided to visit the theatre, even without speaking more than two words of Croatian.
From the inside the theatre is also very nice, it has this old "used" look that shows the former glory of the Austrian Empire and the Soviet Era you find so much in East Europe and we like this feeling very much :-). The play was not played on the main stage, but in a very small theatre, "Scena 55". It was sold out and it was very hot in the theatre room, but this added to the strange atmosphere of the novel "The Metamorphosis". But we would criticize that you could see very bad from some places and the seats were very uncomfortable!
The acting of the play was very good, especially the lead actor of Gergor Samsa was really memorable. As mentioned we only understood the first sentence ("Ja sam Gregor Samsa" - "I am Gregor Samsa"), but we could follow the play through the physical expression of the actors.
So, if you want to have an interesting cultural experience and they play a piece with a physical aspect to it (or you speak Croatian), you should absolutely try the HNT!
