“Ask to be in the main building!!!”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

There are 2 buildings in this hotel, one looks like a boutique hotel whilst the other is much more like a dormitory/hostel a few blocks away. We of course got a room at the later. If you are allocated in the so called "villa" (aka dormitory and there were only 4 rooms in the building) I would highly suggest you go elsewhere as there are plenty in the city centre that are much better and would feel more like a hotel.

Service is lacking in the villa, reception's English seemed limited. Clearly this was not the case in the main building. Staff departs the building around 7-8-pm in the evenings and you are left to open and lock the main doors coming in and out of the "villa" yourselves. How can this be rated as a small luxury hotel? Small yes, luxury absolutely NO. If there were no staff in the building, service can be a challenge and I was in fact a little concerned over the safety... in case other guests forgets to lock up properly.

The finishing of our room... from electric sockets, bedding to bathroom were poorly done. There seem to be a lot of short cuts. There is little to say except that it is far from luxury.

Staff would highly suggest you go to the main building for breakfast since variety was much wider... there you will see the real hotel which reinforces that the villa should really be rated at another level. Location, set up, staff are much better, a world apart from the villa.

Luckily we were only there for one night and was just happy to leave after our short stay.

Room Tip: When booking this hotel, ask them to confirm you are in the main building and if you are allocated t...

Dear Guest,

Thank You for for compliments and sharing your opinion about inconveniences you've encountered at our Villa Dobric - hotel Vestibul Palace annex building (distanced 200 meters from the main hotel building).
Hotel Vestibul Palace main building is a building with original Roman walls from the 3rd century whilst Villa Dobric, the annex building, distanced 200 meters from the main building of the hotel is a 18th century renovated house, both building listed as a member of the Small Luxury Hotels Of The World.
In the hotel main building full buffet breakfast is served at Restaurant Diocles, whilst at Villa is continental, and all of our Guests have a privilege to choose which breakfast they prefer more. The room rates are quite different in the main building and annex building, and I am sorry You have found Villa Dobric more like a dormitory, especially because we have 17 fluent English speaking employees, and no comparison with dormitory is realistic.
After seeing Your review I have called the electrician and checked personally to overview the property, and to see if there is anything poorly done (as mentioned in Your review) and found no deficiency, and especially no short cut as these things we find very serious.

I am terribly sorry You did not say anything to us in order to give us a chance to help You.

Thank you for your time and effort to write a review.

Kind regards,
Boris Dusa

Vestibul was highly recommended so we did not bother looking around and booked here. We did not get the rooms in the main hotel which was very clear at the time of booking. The building where our room was located is called Villa Dobric and in my opinion they should be ranked as two separate properties, even if the management is the same.

At first we were given a tiny room on the 1st floor in Villa Dobric. After we asked for availability of a better room, they offered us a complimentary upgrade for the following nights which we took. The second room was on the 2nd floor and was like a duplex. It was slightly bigger but not a very comfortable room to stay in.

For the price we paid, and the high recommendations we got from our friends, we were expecting a much more comfortable room. The service no doubt is good (besides the reception at the main hotel). They not only came to pick us up in the parking, but also took my luggage and returned my rental car (with some issues tough). The breakfast was decent, service at breakfast was super.

The concierge (pretty much the reception at the main hotel) at times provided wrong information about prices and was always promoting making reservations through the hotel at 4-5 times higher cost. Also during check out they had charged me for the complimentary upgrade (which they were very kind to offer for our special occasion) and also charged for car parking on the days we didn't have a car. They were resolved politely of-course but it took 30 minutes.

Not sure about the rooms at the main hotel building, but for the price i would pick another accommodation in the old town. Besides the room, there is pretty much no value addition, and the old town is so small that any hotel within would be good in terms of location.

Room Tip: Definitely don't stay in Villa Docric. Its very average and ordinary for the price you pay.

I cannot offer comparisons to other hotels but this is a perfectly located charming hotel that is spotless and inviting. I would recommend a suite or junior suite if you are staying for any length of time as the superior double is quite small. The breakfasts are very complete and beautifully presented. The hotel merges the historic and modern making for an elevated experience. You can walk to everything from here. Be sure to have someone from the staff meet you on the street as it can be difficult to find.

Room Tip: Ask about the room size

My friend and I were doing a week long trip on the Croatian coast and at the last minute we decided to spend the night in Split. Rick Steve's guidebook recommended this hotel and it exceeded our expectations! It is truly a gem hidden among the web of streets in Split. The location was perfect and close to everything. The staff was incredibly warm and knowledgable, and gave very good restaurant recommendations. The interiors of the hotel were magnificent and definitely the BEST hotel we stayed in for the entire trip. The hotel had a very modern style but was accented with original stone from the old city walls. The cost of the hotel was also amazing. I would come back to Split just to stay at this hotel. One minor note, the hotel is a bit difficult to find, so it is better to meet one of the staff on the strip of restaurants and let him show you the way to the hotel.

Room Tip: There are only 7 rooms! You cannot go wrong.

The staff at the hotel couldn't have done more for us- everything from the airport transfer to helping us with catamaran schedules and buying our tix for us to helping us transfer from Split to Dubrovnik. Just perfect.
The hotel itself is perfectly located in the heart of town- actually part of Diocletian's palace. Walking distance to everything! Lovely breakfast included on charming square. Couldn't be better.

Split's Hotel Vestibul Palace is arguably the best boutique luxury hotel in the Balkans and the Adriatic. It is right where you want to be, the service is exemplary and the staff are beautiful people. We've stayed there 3 times now as we come and go from Australia to Korcula and every time is a delight. If you prefer to be away from any summer evening weekend entertainment in the Peristil (the very heart of Split) then their Annex in the historic Vila Dobric 250 meters away is a quiet hideaway. You can breakfast in Dobric on the balcony, or wander over to Vestibul for something more substantial. The Hotel restaurant is very good indeed, but there is no shortage of fine dining in Split so it is worth exploring. There's no road traffic in Diocletian's Palace (central Split) so consider having the Vestibul staff themselves do your transit from boat or plane, hardly more expensive than a cab and it's the perfect relaxed introduction to Split.

Room Tip: The top floor double rooms with gallery bedroom in Vila Dobric look out over Fruit Square. Comforta...

Dear Mr. John,

Above all I want to thank you for compliments and sharing your opinion about Hotel Vestibul Palace and Villa Dobric.
Villa Dobric, being an annex building of the hotel Vestibul Palace is ideal hideaway for families, this is why it is so famous among travellers in Split.
Thank You for the compliments about Hotel's Restaurant Diocles, offering variety of Mediterranean dishes, and for the airport transfer. We also provide daily excursions by hotel's luxury limousine Mercedes S.

We are looking forward to welcome You at hotel for the 4th time!

Thank You for these kind words,
Boris Dusa
