Villa Diana is a small, well located, clean guest house/apartment, but what really sets it apart is the hospitality of the management.

First the location, it’s positioned about five minutes’ walk to the Riva café strip and Palace, Ferry and Bus terminal and Bacvice beach. It’s only a couple of minutes’ walk, and on the same street as Hotel Luxe, so all the comments about that hotel’s location are equally applicable for Diana.

The double room itself was a good size for a couple, considering how old the city and building itself is. It was basic, but functional and cleaned to a good standard each day, with air conditioning, an empty fridge to store drinks, a flat screen TV with a selection of satellite channels (with a lot in English) and a DVD player. There was also free wifi in the room and outside dining area.

The hospitality of the brother and sister management was the best I’ve experienced in a hotel. It seemed nothing was too much trouble for them, from giving restaurant recommendations to looking up and printing ferry timetables and even offering an ice bucket and glasses for our wine when all we asked for was a corkscrew.

Being such a small hotel (with only 6 rooms in total), breakfast wasn’t served as a buffet, but we were provided a selection of fruit, eggs, bread, ham, cheese and spreads in the outside dining area each morning.

We also tried the restaurant a couple of times for lunch. It was simple, but good value and there were regularly people who weren’t staying in the hotel eating there.

The only minor negatives were the smell of sewer gas in the bathroom even with an air freshener, but that seemed to be a problem all over Split so not the hotel’s fault, and the old style shutters instead of curtains on the windows to block out light. Again, that’s the style of building in Split, so not a problem unique to the hotel.

Overall, if you’re looking for a good value base to stay in Split for island sailing or exploring the Palace, Vila Diana is recommended.

We were flying into Split and searched the internet and found this lovely hotel. It was in the centre of Split near the ferry port and bus stations so travelling to other places would be easy. We feel the hotel was good value for money, a delicious breakfast was included. A member of the hotel staff emailed us before flying out to ask if we wanted to be picked up from the airport. They charged us 30 euros and we agreed. They were extremely friendly and carried our luggage to the room. In hindsight, we could have got a bus from the airport to the centre of Split. The receptionist was friendly and provided us with a map to travel around the city. Split is a wonderful place and is worth a visit. The bedroom was clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very clean and the shower was amazing. We also had a TV. The only problem with the place is that the main street is extremely noisy, especially in the early hours of the morning. We had shut the windows and shutters but the noise was still apparent.

Very nice hotel, and excellently located near (within 10 min walk) of bus station, train station and the palace. The owners were very kind and helpful and one of the family is always around the hotel if needed. The rooms are comfortable, and even though this hotel is on a main road, the noise from the traffic was not noticeable. We enjoyed our dinner, which was competitively priced, and an excellent breakfast is included in the price. We thought the price was reasonable given the facilities, location and comfort. I would definitely recommend this place to others, and would stay again on another visit to Split.

I was there 2 times in 15 days, 2 different rooms, each nice and clean. Rooms are perfect, have everything you need. Bathrooms nice and clean (everything signed as desinfected). Weather was nice so we had breakfast on terrace which has nice garden and street view. Breakfast was great, espresso coffe ( for which You need to pay in other hotels but here is included in breakfast and you can order as much as you want), different kinds of eggs, fruits, yogurts...Waiter serves everything on your table! Perfect!
Also, free wifi in room and in hotel restaurant! This hotel is located in center, near old city, main promenade and ferry port. Staff is amazing, they're very helpful and friendly. Our stay there was very pleasant and we will come back there next year for surely! I will recommend that hotel to everyone!!!

It's a small hotel with a filling breakfast included. Nice enough staff, and free parking which, this close to the old city, is a big amenity, but it's noisy -- the shutters banged all night in the wind, and the traffic noise was noticeable (if not as dominating as the shutters) -- and there are little things wrong, like broken shower wall-mounts. All in all, it was a fine place to stay, and a good location (v. near to old town), but it seemed a bit expensive for what it was (we used booking.com -- more reasonable rates might be negotiable through direct contact w/ the hotel). We stayed in nicer places in Dubrovnik and Zadar for £30 Euros less per night, just as guidance.

Room Tip: There's apparently one room (just behind reception) that doesn't overlook the street (and th...

While I agree with other reviewers regarding the location and service, the rooms are quite basic and not in themselves worth the price.

The one issue which we had was that there was a distinct odor of sewer gas in the bathroom. I was able to aleviate this but probably merely passed it on to someone else. This is a problem I have not encountered anywhere else including the third world. I would be interested in the experiences of other reviewers regarding this issue: will it be fixed?
