“AMAZING....hotel, view, spa, everything!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2010

Hotel was amazing, so clean, immaculate, spacious and staff very friendly and helpful! All spoke excellent English...would put us to shame! The spa was unbelievable, it includes 2 saunas, steam room, shower experience and 3 gorgeous relaxation rooms, one of which has water beds! Gorgeous 33m outdoor pool and 25m indoor pool! Only 0.5km from beach, sea was crystal clear! Bus operated outside hotel, with regular buses to Dubrovnik Old Town, 10kn a trip (€1.40)! Breakfast is a huge buffet with everything you can imagine! Food at bar was nice just limited options for vegetarians! Overall an amazing hotel and well worth a stay!

We recently stayed at the Valamar Lacroma for four nights under great weather. Had a plush junior suite with balcony & sea view; we were in heaven. Since it is no longer high season, the hotel was not full and this was perfect for us. We had lunches by the pool, enjoyed a very nice supper at the hotel restaurant, late nite drinks at the bar with live musicians every night. Close to the old town by bus number 6 in 15 min sharp. Internet access is not free but we did not care. During check out at 10 a.m, we had the surprise to be charged for stuff we did not take in the mini bar. We asked for explanation and were treated by a young micro manager who very rudely accused us of wanting to get away with the fees. This was such a bad brutal call to reality having spent magic moments there; we were very disappointed. Extremely bad customer skills, this is not the way to treat customers. Obviously they should look into their own staff rather than point to their clientele who spent thousand of dollars in their establishment. Overall, we recommand the hotel but we certainly recommand you to tip the maids well; there the ones in charge of the mni-bars. You do the math.

We had a fantastic time in this Hotel (2010)and generally we found the 4* rating to be as good as or better than many 4* in destinations such as Spain and Italy at a very competitive price. Don't be put off by the initial view of the Hotel as it looks a bit like a series of adjoining Eastern style apartment blocks, especially if you are from Western Europe. The other thing to remember is that this hotel is used by many business people as well as holiday makers so there is a quick client turn-around and the Hotel is very busy, but because it is very big, the business is not noticeable. The location is excellent with many walks around the Babin Kuk peninsular albeit they are a bit rough and need further development. Just near the Hotel there is a bus stop (busses every 10mins) that gives you transport to and from the old town of Dubrovnik. If you want to walk there is a beautiful tree covered coastal walk that takes you to the Marina. This takes about 45mins (if you don’t keep stopping for a drink), but this only takes you to the outskirts of Dubrovnik. The area around the hotel is fairly underdeveloped, but we personally hope it stays that way if you want a peaceful holiday. The only thing I would like to see is more ‘working’ street lights along the many rugged and beautiful walks.
The Hotel is very new (about 2 years I think), very big and spacious (the entrance atrium is huge) and, unlike many new Hotels in many popular destinations, the room walls are solid making for very good insulation from the neighbours. The rooms are big, the beds are huge (at least ours was) and are kept very clean. If you book this Hotel, you must request a sea view if only to wake up on a morning and say “What a fantastic view over the sea and mountains “.
The Food is a good as you would get anywhere and an added bonus is that you get entertained at least twice a week by some local music group. The food is varied and generally of mid mediteranian flavour. I don't think I saw one chip all the time we were there. The dining room is large and fresh with great views over the large Hotel gardens looking out onto the sea. The staff seem to take their work seriously, are very helpful and we found that they all spoke very good English.
Overall we found the Hotel difficult to fault, the location is idyllic and quiet without feeling ‘out on a limb’. We are seriously rebooking already for next year.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for seven wonderful days recently and i cant speak highly enough of it the only reason its getting four out of five is regretably the lack of personality in the staff at the fine dining restaurant langusto. But before i get into that i'd like to tell you all the great stuff about this hotel.

Its very modern and contempory with wide open spaces in the lobby and reception area very bright very airy and I can not stress this enough its spotless and i mean spotless from our room right down to the toilets in the pool area i have never seen cleanliness like it before and i work in the hotel industry.

Our room was Basic with a great view of the sea and a lovely balcony and a MASSIVE bed a super king without a doubt all the usual amenities minibar etc and a reasonably good hairdryer. The personel touches i liked we both knew who would be cleaning our room for the duration of our stay and i have to say the housekeeping staff were lovely Anika and Teadora they never disturbed us even when the DND light was off.

The Reception staff are lovely friendly polite and professional Franka and Anita are terrific and always helped with reccomendations and anything else we needed. Both staff in the the bars are helpful but beware you will have to wait for food about 20mins for a club s/w but WOW what a sandwich!!!
The pool area is great but again the only word of advise i can give people about using the outdoor pool is to run in dont tip toe in, its freezing!!
The bufffets in the restaurant are huge with massive selections at breakfast and the evening meal. it does take time to get drinks when its busy so you will have to be a little patient.

Now to the reason this hotel is only getting a four out of five. The service in the fine dining is really poor. The staff have no personality even when you try to engage them. it was quiet ant they got our maincourse wrong which really is not acceptable in a fine dining establishment even more so when its quiet and consdering we were served by the manager! He even tried to blame me for him getting the order wrong not good and very disapointing. The food was excellent but with the lack of service i came away feeling let down,

Apart from that the hotel is excellent if your looking for a real relaxing break and just want to put your feet up with your significant other a couples retreat!

My boyfriend and I spent 8 nights at Valamar Lacroma Resort. Initially we were very impressed by the hotel -- it's new, modern, clean, and contemporary. We were initially sold based on the pictures of the hotel and it lived up to the pictures in real-life. The rooms weren't particularly lavish but there was a nice big walk-in shower, the beds were comfortable and the lavender pillows divine! Unfortunately the set-up wasn't overly romantic as the room did offer two single beds that were pushed together as much as possible but there was still a rather uncomfortable inch crevace separating them.

The service is what was truly shocking. We had breakfast included in our stay and EVERY morning we had to clear our own table if we wanted to sit outside. It wasn't for lack of tables, there were always numerous free teables but there just wasn't enough staff to get them cleared and set for the next guests. Ontop of that, getting a coffee was nearly impossible, we would have to chase down a server and even then they never seemed to have any to hand. I don't think this is the staffs fault - I think the hotel was cutting corners and didn't have enough staff. Beyond the breakfast service we ate at the buffett dinner twice -- the food das decent and service was much better than breakfast. We also ate at the fine dining restaurant which lacked ambience (well music and other diners anyays) and my boyfriend was served two oysters that were completely off! I'm not sure how a supposed fine-dining chef could miss the smell coming off them. We did get the starters "taken off the bill" but were given desserts instead which we were charged for. Still a relatively cheap meal for a "fine-dining" restaurant at a hotel.

The location was perfect for us - a short bus ride to the beautiful Old Town but it was also nice to be a bit further out and we had the option of having quieter days around the hotel. The pool area is very nice but again the service isn't great in that the staff don't come around to see if the guests want food/ drinks and there weren't enough umbrellas to go around! We went down to the beach a few times but if you don't get there very early you will miss out on the sun loungers!

All-in-all a fairly mixed experience, Dubrovnic is beautiful and we had a lovely holiday overall but I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you get a bargain on it! We paid 4 star prices for our stay and it was definitely not 4 star quality overall!

This is a high end 4 star hotel and with a little improvement could be a 5 star. As many people have stated this is a contemporary design hotel and could be described as soulless which isn't my cup of tea but the advantage was soon evident after spending a day out in Dubrovnick, to get back to a clean cream stone, cool, spacious and uncluttered environment was appreciated. The arrangement is on many levels and takes time to find your way round I'm not sure what the architect was up to but it doesn't flow well. The Reception staff are pleasant and very helpfull there is an Excursion desk for arranging trips but these were a lot more expensive than those available outside the hotel, but were the same companies. There is a small gift shop and a small general shop selling UK papers. The terrace bar has stunning views and serves light meals and drinks the prices compare very well with outside. There is a good size pool outside with tiled spa beds, plus an indoor pool the areas are clean and spacious with comfortable loungers. There is a small pool bar serving light snacks and drinks, the chocolate ice cream is highly recommended make sure it hasn't melted and refrozen! We had a premium room which was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Clean and good bathroom with efficient shower with complimentary shower gel etc. There is a compliment tray with tea, coffee and herb teas,I don't like dried milk/cream so got a small jug of milk each day from the bar. There is a mini bar pricey as usual. The in room safe is easy to use. Wardrobe storage is a bit small most is taken up with the ironing board. The balcony was a good size and had stunning views spoilt slightly by the high railings, insisted on by the fun police I suppose. Not all rooms had balconies, if you didn't want to stretch to a premium seaview, the rooms at the front of the hotel with the balconies had a good view of mountains and the bridge and had the morning sun. The spa is lovely and well worth a visit. Breakfast had the best choice I have ever had in a 4 star and a man soley employed to squeeze fresh fruit juice The coffee was dreadfull and usually cold forget having a cappucino.
WHY IT FALL SHORT OF A 5 * - the service is lacking in most areas. No porter on standy to help with luggage, no slipers or dressing gown, room housekeeping hit and miss, no drinks service to sunbeds, pool man rarely seen to help with towels, sunbeds and umbrellas (never enough and no natural shade). There is no management of the pool area, there was a problem with 5 teenage boys causing havoc round the pool on a couple of days some guests tackled them but the staff did nothing, despite it clearly disturbing other guests, these boys were not staying at the hotel. There were kids dive bombing and people playing ball and frizby games not allowing those who wanted to swim space. There are 5 Valmar group hotels on the peninsuler and each can use the facilities of the other. Evenings have little atmosphere and most people go out to the surrounding area or hotels. Please don't be put off by these comments as it is honest but trivial. More info on the Dubrovnick forum.

We have just returned from our trip to beautiful Dubrovnik!! Our stay was a true pleasure at the lacroma. We had done a great deal of research into where we should stay, and the location of the lacroma seemed the perfect distance from the old town during peak summer time as it can get a little busy with tourists. The bus stops right outside the hotel, a great bus service very frequent , i dont understand any one that does not do the research into where they are staying ...we knew it would be a fifteen minute journey to the oldtown, yes there are other hotels nearer but havent got any patch on the lacroma,as regards the style, the views, and perfect distance away from the hustle and bustle.
We also read so much positive feedback from other trip adviser travellers,we certainly were not dissapointed,as we were "WOWED!" as we entered the lacroma.
We have a great interest and appreciation of design, and if you are expecting frills and flounces...you will be very dissapointed!!! The brightness and airiness you experience will over whelm you, the cool sleek lines of this architectural delight, did not fail to impress us. Beautiful photography, large splashes of colour canvases diplayed against a crisp white backdrop, which only amplified during the day as the sun blazed through the corridors, gave us a feeling of almost being in the surroundings of a modern art gallery.
Everything finished to a high specification, it outshone any hotel we ever stayed in.
Rooms were tastefully furnished, and we too, would strongly reccomend staying in the premium room, a little more expensive, but worth every penny, breathtaking views of the islands, and sunsets will amaze you...it will only add to your experiece!!!
There is nothing more you could ask for ,or want from the room itself, great space and very quiet...bathrooms were a well designed space, beautifully tiled and spotless clean! As this hotel only a year old, we felt as if we were the first to stay in our room!
House keeping were excellent, always seem to come into the room when we were out, never disturbed us...and we had towels and linens changed, and toiletries replenished daily!!! you also get a pillow menu, which we never got from a five star hotel, which leads me on to saying.... this hotel IS of a FIVE STAR standard!!!
Breakfast was just jaw dropping,i have never seen such a vast array of food, juices freshly made in front of you, and every bread and pastry you could ever imagine baked fresh from the ovens.
Everything so clean and hygenically prepared, and you could see the food temperatures being tested and checked, you could not ask for any more! staff were so effecient, and catered to your every whim!! The food displays were a wonderland of delight, the attention to detail was unbelievable, and goes to show you thats the difference between a very good hotel and an excellent hotel!!
The pool area is a sun bathers paradise, ample sun bathing terraces, and fantastic views.
We also came peak time and this area was never crowded, and surplus loungers were on standby although you never had to reserve your sunbed early as there were plenty, and lots of space. even the outdoor pool area toilets were fresh and clean and beautifully tiled, and constantly getting checked.
Dubrovnik oldtown has to be seen to be believed, amazing!
our staying at the lacroma was the icing on the cake of our trip , and i am so happy to have experieced it, i dont understand how anyone could say otherwise,as you cannot fault it!!! it is indeed a breathe of fresh air in terms of design, minimal and contemporary, away from the fussiness and frills of previous!
We are already reccommending this hotel to our family and friends, and we await our next visit with great eagerness now we know what delights are in store!!!
